I don't think mother's breastfeeding is any big deal, even in military uniforms. Welcome to the 21st century.
Military Moms Breastfeeding in Uniform Stir Controversy
By Lylah M. Alphonse, Senior Editor, Yahoo! Shine | Parenting – 3 hours ago

At a time when breastfeeding in public is already controversial, pictures of
two military
moms
doing so while wearing their uniforms is sparking outrage.

The
photo is part of a local breastfeeding awareness campaign by Mom2Mom of Fairchild Air Force Base, a support group launched
in January by Crystal Scott, a military spouse and mother of three. Among the intimate
close-ups of smiling young mothers cuddling their adorable babies, the images of
the two airmen stand out.

"People are comparing breastfeeding in uniform to urinating and defecating in
uniform. They're comparing it to the woman who posed in "Playboy" in uniform [in 2007]"
Scott told Yahoo!
Shine
in an interview. "We never expected it to be like this."

"I'm
an X-ray tech and I breastfeed in my uniform all the time," Scott says. "Granted
they're scrubs. But people do it all the time in their uniforms. If you have a
hungry baby, why would you take the time to change completely?"

Terran Echegoyen-McCabe, a
member of the Air National Guard who was photographed in uniform nursing her
10-month-old twin daughters, says that she's surprised by the reaction to the
photos.

"I have breastfed in our lobby, in my car, in the park ... and I
pump, usually in the locker room," she told the "Today" show, adding that she usually nurses her
babies while on her lunch break during drill weekends. "I'm proud to be wearing
a uniform while breast-feeding. I'm proud of the photo and I hope it encourages
other women to know they can breastfeed whether they're active duty, guard or
civilian."

As a FEMALE Military Retiree .. let me say this ..
we were always taught to wear our uniforms proudly and properly ..
there's a time and a place for being slightly out of uniform too ..
I did breast feed my own children ..
(but I used a breast pump during the day .. had a Mini-Fridge that I brought to the office and saved in bottles)
(that pumping .. was in a private seating area in the Female Bathrooms .. yes, clean, nice comfortable couch .. that was where we'd do it)
The bottles would be used in the times of my duty hours
and at home .. I'd feed them without the bottles

(AT NO TIME .. did I seek out to be photographed doing my feedings of my children .. )

(yes, this meant NO Photos .. just like when we returned after Deployments/TDYs -- no Public Displays of Affection, nothing more than just a tiny hug .. and shaking hands .. it was in PRIVATE that we relaxed .. and showed whom we were outside of the Military)

I totally support moms who wish to breast feed their babies, I also understand the value of discretion vs rattling a hornets' nest for no great gain.

They are women and mothers first... then military. The military knew what they were getting into when women took roles in defending our country. It is a fact of life...and must be dealt with as such.

The only other option... Women are not allowed to have a child while still in service to our country... See how that goes over!!!

So when their baby is hungry they need to completely change their clothes then feed? Would they be able to get a snack out of a bag and feed an older child in uniform?

Personally it's no big deal, but the military has their rules. In order to defend your freedom is to abide by our rules.

it's a federal law that they be given time to breast feed.

The military is governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, not federal legal precedent.

so what, they have to abide by federal law as well. Why do you think if a military base has terrorist or suspected terrorist the FBI is in charge not the Base Commander. The UCMJ is there to govern primarily justice activities, like art 15's,courts martial s, discharges, etc...

"so what, they have to abide by federal law as well."

No, they have to abide by federal law if they do something against federal law off base against a civilian. It's a question of jurisdiction.

"Why do you think if a military base has terrorist or suspected terrorist the FBI is in charge not the Base Commander."

Because holding terrorists is the FBI's jurisdiction, not the military's. The reason they hold them on military bases (like Gitmo) is because it's very difficult for them to escape.

You know what you're a clown. I spent more than enough years in the military to know who has jurisdiction and when. I also know that if it were illegal, they would have got picked up. So go spread your BS to someone who has never been in the military
