Microsoft Surface Tablet Not Selling Well: Do You Use One?

Microsoft's Surface tablet is an impressive device, but not selling well according to its creators' lofty expectations. The tablet market is definitely on the upswing, but the same can't be said at this time for the Microsoft Surface. To date, the Surface has sold 1.5 million units, short of Microsoft Corporation's projected figures that hovered around 2 million.

As of late 2012, Apple's iPad accounted for over half of the world's tablets sold to consumers. Google has also made a big splash with its Android system. Microsoft's Windows is still statistically the dominant and most widely-used operating system on computers, but its attempt to take a chunk out of the tablet market hasn't been successful so far.

The iPad has been around far longer than the Surface, but that's not really the best excuse for its lack of success, since Android came after the iPhone and took a significant market share in a short amount of time. Time will tell if more people decide to go with the Microsoft Surface as their tablet of choice. Do you use the Microsoft Surface tablet? If so, let us know in the comments section below!

I don't use any tablet of any brand. I do, however, remember this little fact every time people praise Apple and curse Microsoft (and especially when Microsoft is accused of copying Apple):

Microsoft is a good company that is well at what they do. I think to honest Apple I pads are taking over the WORld. Microsoft should worry about little devices ( i know little the better) In the case: they should focus on like sound systems and others thing like blue ray HD picture.. That would be cool If Microsoft formed Television......very high tech motion senor
and calculates your diet for the week, there wouldn't need for chords and stuff like that. Just a plug that goes in the wall and translates to the Television to get A HD Picture Motion. I plan on becoming a engineer maybe for metal and scrap (welding as well)

I would if it wasn't so expensive. My friend has one and it's awesome but I refuse to spend that much money on ANY tablet. Just not worth it.

Microsoft makes such crummy software that I'd be reluctant to use anything they make.

Don`t put so much time and energy into a project like this without doing a trial and error test. They should have sent out a set amount of products them ducumented how well they sold. If the sales weren`t good then they would know to try something else.

but when I am in the market for a new one I will consider it. I love how all these folks are knocking win 8 when most have never touched 8 and those that have, have never touched it on a tablet...which, IMHO, is the only way to enjoy this OS. but then I am biased...I am a computer technician and instructor...not much of a learning curve for me.

Absolutely, this is what people don't realize... It did have a point. I almost feel like MSFT shouldn't have rolled Windows 8 out to non touch interface computers.

Using Windows Phone for a couple years I can appreciate the tile design and having used my friends surface a few times I absolutely enjoy Windows 8 in a touch setting.

I don't use tablets at all. Not even iPads. They're just a waste of money imo. Most of what you can do on an ipad can be done on most smartphones. I'm happy with my laptop. meh.

If the price is right and I have the money I'll get one eventually, but I would probably rather get a tablet running android.

Windows 8 looks hideous. Any media showing it has that ugly-as-can-be "Start Menu", which is just an eyesore. As unlikely as I am to get a tablet, a Surface is very low on the list. (I might even consider an iPad before a Surface - though it'd probably never come to that, as I'd just get an Android tablet.)

Do you know the specs, or are you basing off of app store and ease of use? And the iPad costs 2x as much as one of equal specification in the Android market.

I bought the 10.1 from Costco and the battery life sucks.
The IPad is the first iteration.
For me it was not the price, it was battery life

I don't haven an Ipad or Kindle either. Heck, I don't even have a LAPTOP! However, I'd like to have something like this eventually. Easy to use, easy to carry/pack. Maybe one day I'll break down and get one.

Think about the number of 1.5 million. This was 1.5 million sold by noon Eastern time that day it hit the shelves. The IPad sold 2 million in one week, that is in hand. Now if you look at the number of IPad pre-sold, yes they had 5 million world wife, but MS has pre-sold 3 million in the US only.

I'm in the market for another device be it another tablet (already own a iPad), or a laptop/ notebook. I priced the Surface this weekend. Waaaay too expensive. So it looks like I'm getting a Samsung Chromebook for a third of the price of a Surface tablet.

And it doesn't surprise me, considering that Windows 8 isn't that much more spectacular on a tablet than on a laptop. If Microsoft had designed 2 different OSes for laptops and tablets instead of designing Windows 8 to be compatible with both devices, the tablets might've actually sold well.

Not to mention that the company at least had SOMETHING stable going with Windows 7, and then tried to fix problems that don't exist.
