Melbourne, Australia Tops World's Most Livable Cities: Would You Want to Live There?

The Economist Intelligence Unit's most recent Global Livability Survey ranks cities around the world on their desirability as places to live from least to most pleasant. And this year, Melbourne, Australia topped the list. Would you want to live there?

Already do, I grew up here.

Sure its more expensive then living in a country town or a smaller city, but these livability ranks are based on things like accessibility of facilities ie. Hospitals (The Royal Womens Hospital, Childrens Hospital, Alfred Hospital, St Vincents Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Dental Hospital and The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital are all within 5 minutes of the CBD and within the rest of the metropolitan you are never more then 10 minutes drive from a hospital), Airports (Melbourne International and Domestic airport is 30 minutes from the CBD), Public transport (Trams, Trains and Busses can get you to within a 4 minute walk of wherever you want to go within the whole metro), Shopping, Schools and Public parks.
Its also based on the availability of employment and housing, the size of the houses and the wages of the jobs.
Crime rates are nothing compared to similar size cities in the US (our population is about 4.1 million).

Plus it is beautiful, cultural and home of some of the best restaurants and cafes in Australia.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere near Australia. A bunch of closed minded bigots. Did you know it's completely legal to kill gay people there if they hit on you? Don't even get me started on the racism that goes on there either.

Always wanted to go there, it would be great to live there. Really don't like the idea that10 most venomous snakes in the world share the same suburban space. Not to mention the poison spiders, crocks and so forth. Second thought, maybe just a visit.

The vibe there is too white-washed homogenous and racist. Also, Australia is quite isolated from the rest of the world, if you like to travel. Then again, if you can afford to live in Australia, chances are you can afford world travel. Other than those points, it's better than USA by far, many countries are. USA is turning into a 2nd world country. And it has a host of problems and lack of freedoms that are shocking.

We are only 200 years old and were founded by racist white english people, we haven't had enough time to form a real multicultural community, we are 90% caucasian (european descent), 9% asian and 1% other, sure there are plenty of racist Aussies, probably the same percentage of racist Americans, but we aren't all bogan trash and most of us do not tolerate racism.

Melbourne was nice. In Victoria, you see more of the change of seasons, and I am a Northern Hemisphere person, and Melbourne was very easy to get around in.

Melbourne is about the same weather as the southernmost part of england or upper mid france, not very hot at all.
