....You misunderstand my argument if you are tying it to the gun-control solution.(or non-solution rather) My argument does not fold on itself because it's not connected to the "gun control" side of things in the least. My discussion has nothing to do with gun control in the general population as I though ti had firmly established that gun control is a bad idea. My entire discussion up to this point has been on the topic of religious centers arming themselves and some of the potential benefits and risks, If you do not understand that, "should citizens be given access to guns," and "should people brings guns to church" are two totally different questions, then maybe you should have your head examined.

Let me reword this. Should the government exercise gun control upon the population? No, because the right to bear arms is important for maintaining a sane, free society. Should religious sects exercise gun control upon people entering their sanctuary? Yes, because you don't want any Tom, Dick, or Harry who may or may not even be there to worship carrying guns into the sanctuary, as that creates an environment where religious sects can easily turn into armed camps, perhaps taking the preacher's words way too literally. So if there are to be guns on the premises, they ought to ...

So if there are to be guns on the premises, they ought to be only in trusted hands and only during times of trouble. Much like how one ought to handle gun control within one's house. It's a lot safer to only let people you know and trust handle guns on your own property. And if you don't understand these to be separate issues then you probably need to be better educated on the subject.

I did misunderstand you then, and I'm sorry for that. The first comment of yours that I responded to was also the earliest one I had read, so I made a poor assumption about where you were coming from and the viewpoint you were arguing...my bad.

Other than the personal comments, I can only say, great post. :p

But every time one of these wackos decides to go off the deep end and kill innocent people, the gun-grabbing libbies seem to grow even bolder. This has to stop. I say start packing some heat, people! Police protection is NO protection. How many people with guns were there at the time?...easy answer 1... the damned SHOOTER. The right to keep and bear arms is more and more our RESPONSIBILITY as Americans. The 2nd Amendment --- use it, or lose it!!

Given that it happened in a Sikh temple, this was more likely a hate crime. A lot of Americans confuse Sikhs with Muslims because Sikh men often wear beards and turbans, and some people in the Middle East who just happen to be Muslim also wear beards and turbans. This kind of "They're both 'brown people religions' so they gotta be the same, right?" logic is very stupid, but it's what you expect from bigots. My heart goes out to the victims.

... you do realize that a copycat criminal tries to do the crime as close as possible to the crime they're copying, which is why it's called a "copycat crime". :S If it wasn't in a movie theater and no costumes were involved (none were mentioned in the article that I noticed, so I'll assume not), it was just another shooting with absolutely no connection.

No, it was xenophobia. Because so many Americans will confuse Sikhs for Muslims. I constantly see it all of the time. I have lived in India, and very thoroughly know the different religious denominations there. The Sikhs believe in "langar" or communal kitchens, where everybody dines together. This was a rebellion against the caste system of Hinduism and the sexual segregation of Islam. The Sikh beliefs are quite different from that of Islam. But tell that to a provincial backwards American, and they only thing they will know is their South Asian appearance and thick beard growth. THOSE PEOPLE LOOK WEIRD, I DO NOT LIKE THEM. Does that go along with "The Star-Spangled Banner?" Obama must be a Sikh then.

Oh please... It is highly unlikely that you would know the difference yourself if you had not spent time in India, and acting as though the average M.E./Asian person would really know the difference between a Southern Baptist, Unitarian or Mormon without having to look it up only shows what a myopic stereotyping twit you are.

So how much information do you have about the shooter? For all you know, he's a Muslim who is copying similar acts of violence in the Middle East between Sikhs and various Muslim groups. You don't know and yet you assume it's an American out to kill Muslims out of ignorance and intolerance.

Likewise, you speak of ignorance? Many Sikh's are of an interfaith element where they are both Sikhs and Muslims. When you speak of Indian Sikhs, what you said is more true as that's where Sikhism began, but across other places around the Middle East, people have in fact adopted both faiths in many areas which is something most people like yourself display extreme ignorance about because you don't wait to learn more information before you shoot your mouth off in the wrong direction and blow a hole out of the back of your head.

You lived in India... great, you think you have knowledge... great, but you don't know as much as you claim and act stupid.

We don't know anything much about the shooter and you base all of your comments entirely on the fact that the victims are Sikhs. So how does that make you any more intelligent than the "backwards Americans"? It doesn't and in fact makes you even more ignorant and arrogant.

Over the past four years, we have seen the left jump the gun many times crying out about us stupid Americans attacking white, rightwing, Christian, Conservative, Republican men... then find out it was the exact opposite and it's either one of them or someone of a different race, religious faith and political ideology.

You need to wait, see who it was, address the facts for what they are known to be and not jump the gun with unfounded assumptions.

Art made a natural assumption following a recent mass murder to ask if this was a copycat... you, however, jump in feet over head and make an ass of yourself which only leads other Liberals to join in with you which then makes you all look like ignorant haters because you have nothing to found your views on when you go on the attack.

This ignorance is what's destroying the left faster than anything more as all you needed to do was express your view on Sikhs being different from Muslims along religious lines to educate people... but you have to use it to attack Americans when you yourself are totally uninformed like the majority of us. that's why it comes off as hate.

From the Kentucky census worker a few years back to George Zimmerman shooting Trayvon Martin... it's the same cycle of ignorance and stupidity where you guys have to go on the attack without the first bit of information. George Zimmerman was supposedly an adult white male who shot a black child... from that the left made it the typical hatefest attacking the shooter as a white rightwing Christian Conservative Republican male when the shooter is Hispanic, leftwing, Liberal, Democrat in reality and it went so far that the new Black Panthers put out a bounty on Zimmerman like the KKK used to do when law enforcement released a black suspect because they didn't have enough evidence to hold them while the investigation was still ongoing.

You guys need to calm down, stop the attacks, focus your minds and wait until the facts are known before you start blaming or attacking people. How much trouble is it to wait a day or two to learn more unless you have no ability to learn until you jump the gun and shoot your foot off. haters like the KKK and Aryan Nation jump the gun like that Tim and people of intellect know to wait until enough information has been gathered so they can make an informed opinion about the matter... which do the Liberals and Progressives embrace Tim as for the past four years, you guys have been acting like the KKK and making yourselves look just as ignorant and filled with hate as they do.

    WAKE THE HELL UP!!!

When I lived in India, Sikhs and Muslims were a distinct community from each other. Muslims in India, men and women will dine separately from each other. I should know, I accidentally stood in the women's line when they were serving food for the Feast of Eid. There is no sexual separation among the Sikhs in dining.

India outlawed the caste system in 1950, but it has been a long ordeal to dismantle it. India has had two untouchable presidents, and now they are letting the parents of untouchables know that it is alright for their children to go to school. India now has the third largest economy in Asia, so the country is in a quick pace to modernize itself.

California could not even get their electrical grid right. The caste system was outlawed in the Indian Constitution in 1950. Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, but unfortunately the president's signature do not stop racism.

Sikhism does not believe in the multitude of deities, that Hinduism does. Sikhism is very much a rebellion against the Hindu caste system. In fact, Sikhs are abhorred by the caste system. So caste are no where found within Sikhism.
