Another Aurora-type shooting spree may have been prevented by Maryland police. Do you think we should focus on the killers or the guns?

Washington Post reports: "Authorities have taken a man into custody who referred to himself as “a joker” and threatened to shoot people at his former workplace in Prince George’s County, investigators said Friday."

O so much on the guns. Just the other day I was walking down the street minding my own business and suddenly a hand gun jumped out from the bushes and took a shot at me! And my neighbor was in his own backyard and attacked by a rifle! I'm telling you these guns are getting out of hand? Lock 'em all up and throw away the keys?

The killers? Well, it probably wasn't their fault in the first place. You know, one parent families, they got bullied in school, and they can't afford a cool car. Jeez - it's no wonder! They should be spoken to very firmly, I mean really let them know that we mean business and asked not to do it again.

    Next problem!

If you concerntrate on the killers and they go missing, you find them and you find there gun is missing! It has then been passed on to another killer! If the guns are scrapt for the public then there will be not as many people to kill others!!!

WQhy not ban cars? They kill more people than guns. How about airplanes? When an airliner crashes it kills hundreds at a time but i don't hear you calling for airplanes or cars to be scrapped. Last week 100 million gun owners did no0t kill anybody yet you focus on one out of 100 million.

Horses, horseback riding kills 217 a year.

Chicago has had 228 gun deaths this year, ALL from ILLEGALLY owned guns.

Your logic is flawed beyond belief. It amazes me how non-Americans have an opinion on how America should be run. There is a reason why you are in your country; worry about yours and stay out of the business of mine.

Secondly, if you choose to destroy all guns then someone somewhere will find a way to make one and then will be the most powerful person ever, because others do not have the power to stop them. Does it suck that a twisted psychotic a$$ has caused an uproar? Yes. Does it mean we should turn over our only weapon of self defense not only for each other but a self defense weapon for the government? No.

Its just opinion! GOD! Britain is doing far better than America with crime and murder! Maybe that's because we don't all go wondering around with guns for self difence when actually they are being used to victimise inocent people!

londons crime rate is even higher than chicago's so yeah you guys are doing real great. You imprison people for defending themselves against criminals and let the criminal go free. Englands crime rate was lower b4 guns were outlawed explain that.

Sadly, people are fighting a fight and not even seeing the problem. Criminals don't buy guns on the legal market, felons by law cannot own a gun and yet they always have them. The criminal does not care about how many gun laws you make or even if you ban guns. The only person you affect with a gun law is those that follow the law. You want to fix the problem??? Punish the criminals to the fullest don't send them to some jail that resembles a motel, don't release them early for good behavior in fact don't release them at all until the crime is paid back. Stop spending money to rehabilitate them and make them earn their way. Its people that is blinded and sidetracked by guns that will stop us from fixing the true problem.

True, but then that's not as emotionally charged an idea as banning guns. The libs care more about the criminals rights than those of law abiding citizens. I said earlier that the lawyers would try to use insanity as defense for Holmes, sure enough they're already setting him up for phsyciatric eval at taxpayer expense. Common sense say's you have to be crazy to do what he did, but that's no excuse!. He knew what he was doing and planned it all out even to the point of acting like he was drugged in court.

But the "libs" and those kind, caring, criminal-loving leftists don't realize that true evil exists. They try to shove it under the "mental health" blanket.

Oh that can't be true! Gang members are not supposed to have guns but they do and you can bet they didn't go to their local gun shop and passs a background check to get them. But the libs conveniently ignore things like that cause it doesn't fit in w/ their preconceived ideas that guns are bad.

Exactly. We own a business. We both have gun permits, and guns. A thug pulled a locked and loaded weapon on us, BUT since our child was at work that day, my hubby refused to shoot the bastard. 1 year later, the judge decides this convicted felon, WITH A GUN that he locked and loaded and drew down on hubby with, ONLY gets a 2 year ban from our property, no time in jail, no record, no probabtion. JUST a 2 year ban from our property.

In that same year period, he has done this to three other businesses AND fired into an occupied dwelling. AT SOME POINT, a judge is going to HAVE to face the fact that she let a killer walk out.

Harder access to dangerous guns makes it ALOT more difficult for the killers to get. Guns DEFINITELY need to be MUCH MORE regulated than they are. (Ya think??? Assault rifles and 6,000 rounds? PUH-LEEZE!) The crap is WAAAY too damn easy for just anyone to get.

actually criminals do not prefer assault rifles as they are much harder to conceal. more people were beaten to death with fists last year then died because of an "assault rifle"

Kris, Kris, Kris, please think about what you just wrote.
Who do regulations apply too? Law-abiding citizens right.
Do they have any effect on the criminal element?

    BTW, I have an AR-15 (semi-auto M16) which is a .223 cal rifle.
    I also have an AK-47 semi-auto which is a .308 cal rifle
The AR-15 is more accurate at greater ranges, but the AK-47 has better stopping power.
And yes no matter what the morons on the news tell you they are great hunting rifles.
I mean think about it ~ if they can take down the smartest animal on the planet wouldn't they be excellent for the rest?

I've personally never seen or heard about a gun getting up, marching itself somewhere, and pulling it's own trigger. Criminals and gangs, terrorists, will always have access to guns. Take our right away, and it will be most responsible citizens who do not have them. If it took time for the cops to don face masks and assemble while shots were going on inside the Colorado theatre, which is what I read somewhere, a place he knew people weren't allowed to carry, that left people like him open to doing so. I would prefer the chance that some good citizen/s were carrying, and stopped anymore from getting killed once it started. If you notice places like (sp?)-I know speklling is wrong, but Kinnesewaw, or something like that, in Georgia, and there is another country, I think Sweden or Switzerland, where it's required to carry, unless you're absolutely against it for whatever, the crime rate is far less.

    Duh.

Prior to the passage of the 1968 gun control act events like Aurora did not occur.

Mental patients used to reside in state hospitals, and parents, and educators used to discipline children.

Latch key parenting is the problem. Kids at home without supervision who have no concept of self control because it hasn't been modeled or instilled by parents or the hand wringing liberal educators that are running (ruining) our public education.

Fact, the city with the most stringent control in the nation, this summer has had more shootings in one night than this mass casualty event.

Yes, we should focus on the "killer", but I also believe we need to get back to focus on values and morality in the family and in our schools. Our kids need to again understand the "board of education" is a piece of wood in the vice principal's office, and not a ground of people.

Some more food for thought: Gun Safe School zones did not exist prior to 1995....guess when the increase in school shootings started?.....Yup...October of 1997. One must keep in mind that people who strike in public places want to inflict as much damage as possible, within a short period of time, preferably without interference. The best way to accomplish that goal would be to strike in a public area where it would be less likely anyone else would be armed (such as a school)...a "gun free zone." Benjamin Franklin had a good point when he said "A well armed society is a polite society." Idiots out for attention are less likely to attempt getting such attention if they know there is a good chance there is another with the ability to thwart his efforts.

There are already enough laws on the books in regards to firearms. Enforce them. But do not further tie the hands of law-abiding Americans who want nothing more than to make sure they have the means to protect themselves and their families.
