Seriously? He gets home half an hour late and this is how he's punished? For real? he could've just been grounded for a few days, y'know...

He does look humiliated, but what is this? Just spank him and lock him in his room, and take his video games and phone away.

The parents will be arrested, they can't kick him out.

Not until he is 17. They are legally responsible for his care until then. Trust me, my mom tried to kick my sister out at 14 and she almost went to jail for neglect and abuse.

Really? My mom always threatens to kick me out and stuff. I'm not even 17 yet. I didn't know she could go to jail for that, though. :/

Yep, she is legally responsible for you until you are 17. I was judged as unruly and delinquent when I was 15 and my mom still couldn't throw me out. She learned her lesson.

Do you have a job? If not, get one and start saving up just in case.

It really depends on the state you're in. If anything the parents can give the kid up to the state and then the kid would end up in the system.

So they want to teach their son that homelessness is a punishment and those living on the streets deserve it?

Hey if your gonna be a brat and he is too old to spank and put in the corner, I think that is totally justified!

What's with this "public punishment." Me thinks these parents are looking for attention, for some strange reason. Just mete out the discipline and keep it moving, within the confines of the home. There's no need for this stupidity.

Not knowing the true motives of the boy returning half an hour late, I cannot judge about this kind of punishment. It also depends on how long he had to walk around and sit with this sign. Provided that he was really nasty, it might have sense, but I am not sure. On the other hand, children tend to forget about time after school, when they are together. Overcharging them with duties and leaving too little time for worthwile ludic activities and personal development has no sense.

I don't see a problem with it. He'll only be late once and probably never again. Good for them.

What is the matter with his parents? Humiliation doesn't work. It only makes a child resent the parent and next time he make sure he doesn't get caught doing anything wrong. So what that he was a half hour late. Did they even ask what happened? Probably not. What a shame that they felt the need to treat this child like this.

He looks so humiliated. Maybe he's been a bad boy lately but that's extreme. They could make him write five pages about his behavior & why it should change & how it should change. They could make him help in a food bank or help clean the park on park cleaning day.
