Many people think having children is very important. Would you be willing to live without being a parent?

I'm still working out how I can come to terms with not having children if I can't. I'm thirty years-old, single and not in a stable financial position. I hope I get to earn better money soon, the first thing I'd do is get my eggs frozen. On the other hand I can't believe the reasons some people have for having children like wanting someone to love them unconditionally instead of someone they can love. Someone even told me she wanted a child to be a miniature version of herself, somehow I think that's not going to happen. I've never had any pressure to have kids and most people I mix with have none either so it's got nothing to do with that. I just want to put someone else's needs and feelings above my own and give them better than I had.

I would really like to adopt kids when I get older because there are many little kids who need homes and why would you want to bring more kids into the world when there are already kids who need homes

I would like to get kids...When I'm like 30 or older ;) Because I have 4 younger siblings, and all of my cousins are younger than me, so I wanna live alone without kids and babysitting for a while before I get kids...My mum was only 17 1/2 when she got me (the same age I am now) and my dad was 21...None of them graduated high school, and they didn't have a lot of money then...(Now they got great jobs, though ;) Everything worked out just fine...)
But I want a steady economy, a lot of life-experience and a husband I love most of all before I get any kids...And to get those things will probably take a while :P

Currently, I believe I wouldn't want kids when I get older. >.< I just really dislike them in general, but I guess that during the course of ageing, I may change my mind.

I personally, if I have no partner, I would not want to be a parent. I have enough nieces & nephews to last me a life time. Being a parent is hard, and currently -- with the war, with people who thinks that cussing is the norm otherwise you're viewed as uptight -- I don't know if I want to bring up my kids in this condition. However, if I have a partner who wants kids and I can see him as a great father figure, I won't fight him on that. With that said, I am not opposed to adopting either. There are enough kids out there with no parents and the world is already over-populated as it is. I don't have enough ego to must-have mini me running around.

I think that being able to have kids is the most wounderful feeling in the world knowing that your family will continue to live. Giving a chance for you children to enjoy the greater things of life.

I don't think I want to have kids. I'm already too old in my opinion. Plus who wants to bring a child into this world where you have to fight to survive? I can imagine it's only going to get worse.

That is a completely personaly choice and should be left to the individual. I think it is cool lots of people are choosing to not have children, if that is what they want. It is a tough job and really isn't for everyone. I am not offended that people choose to stay single or not have children.

For me personaly being a parent has been difficult and rewarding. I think people with children tend to comment or nudge childess couples in the family direction because they know what the experience has done for them personally/ (or maybe misery loves company)

That sounds so negative, but its true. I want to be in control of myself 100% of the time. I will never let another human being control my attitude or amoutions. That bring the case, i can never have my own kids, but i can adobt someone else's brat, that i most likely will do. Wont fill so bad about kicking that brat the F*CK out. =o)

I think people should consider adoptions when there are so many children who are homeless and unwanted. Making a 'little you' is kind of egotistical, over rated, and bound to lead to disappointment.

It was very important to me.

And I am very glad to be a parent and would have been disappointed if I wasn't to become a parent.

I love being a parent and even better yet a grandparent.

Depends on the individual. It is a bigger decision than marriage, in my opinion. Also a bigger responsibility and should not be taken lightly.

Parenthood ought to be for those who wants children, it's not a requirement and there are a LOT of us who are very happy not having children because we knew that parenthood wasn't for us. Heck, some folks who had children shouldn't have. I would rather people not have children as oppose to having them and killing them or doing anything harmful to them.

If you don't want children, fine... get a pet!!! They're lovable and cheaper.

Yeah, the time to talk about it IS before you get married. Bet it save a lot of people a lot of heartache, esp. children.
