A man in South Dakota is suing the hospital where he was circumcised as a newborn, saying he only recently became aware that he'd undergone the procedure and that it robbed him of his sexual prowess.
28-year-old Dean Cochrun is asking for $1,000 dollars in punitive damages from Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. He claims an unknown doctor at the hospital, then named the Sioux Valley Hospital, led his mother to believe the procedure was medically necessary.
He argues the circumcision was not necessary, unethical and without medical benefit.

Should he get paid?

When circumcision fist started in the US there was no much of an idea that cleanliness had anything to do with disease. The medics in Britain claimed that masturbation as responsible for the spontaneous creation of a mass of diseases ranging from Syphilis to insanity, this was the same sort of thinking that they had regarding the creation of flies, and they were spontaneously created by rubbish according to the wsdom of the day. This trend only caught on in the English speaking countries of the world in the era of Queen Victoria, possibly because of their religiously puritanical fanaticism, that is why in those days surgeons in hospitals treating for instance war wounded never cleaned their equipment they jus wiped their knives on their apron and went onto the next victim. No mention is ever made about hygiene where it comes to circumcision. And in fact there is no advantage in hygiene in being circumcised.

OK. By cleanliness I am talking general hygiene. It is called smegma, dick cheese. Nasty stuff. Anyway, I am not trying to change your mind. I see you are very passionate on the subject. I have heard men feel robbed at the loss of their foreskin. Here are a couple sites that might help.

You obviously don’t know what smegma is. I would not say that I am passionate on the subject though, as I am still totally intact and have been so for 64 years. In that time the only time I can remember actually seeing any smegma was when I was still very young. Smegma is a mixture if dead skin particles and natural oils that are there to protect the glans and foreskin. It is exactly the same stuff that forms among the folds of a woman’s labia. I doubt if any civilised person would recommend that her parents or guardian cut her labia out of the way to save her washing properly. I Don’t particularly like the ridiculous claim that because I have a foreskin I am in some way less hygienic along with 80% of the rest of the worlds men. I don’t know how but in all of those years I have managed to avoid infections under the foreskin, phimosis, urinary tract infections, the whole gamut of STD’s and up to now penile cancer. It is interesting that you mention the foreskin restoration sites as their existence bring forward the legitimacy of the point that no one has the right to disfigure any one for any reason.

No. I did not give those links for some kind of legitimacy. I gave them so if someone wanted to get foreskin again that there were ways out there to do that.

I mention smegma but don't know what it is? Ok.

You obviously don’t know what foreskin is either, as Yes it is possible with a lot of work and patience to re-establish something that looks like a foreskin over the glans penis. Yes this will return some of the sensitivity lost to the glans as a result of circumcision. (An observation regularly made by those that have done this) However there is nothing they can do about regrowing a foreskin that has an interlining of mucous membrane, a fraenulum which is usually also butchered, the frenar band which closes the end of the foreskin over the glans and above all the more them 20.000 nerves that make this part of the penis a major erogenous zone. There is a lot of work involved for people that have been disfigured to come up with what is but a shadow of the real thing.

Why don't you send what you just said to me to those websites?

Do you understand they are not my sites? Not my ideas? I just offered the sites for people who might be interested.

The people that do forskinrestoration know this. I dont have to tel them. Never the les it is worth the effort to a lot of these people especialy the ones where the sensitivity of the glans is so far gone that they are havin trouble reaching orgasm. An inferior foreskin is stil better then nothing. Besides what has that to do with being compensated for genital mutilation?

I didn't quite know why you were laying out the problems with foreskin restoration because it was not my idea/creation/ theory.

Another frivolous lawsuit. He wants to blame his lack of performance on his foreskin being gone. If he just had his foreskin he would be a stud.

You brought the subject up. And I mentioned that the fact that there are people feel forced to go to the trouble of foreskin restoration are there because they were assaulted at a time when they were not in a position to protect themselves.

Circumcision Associated with Sexual Difficulties in Men and Women

A new national survey in Denmark, where about 5% of men are circumcised, examined associations of circumcision with a range of sexual measures in both sexes. Circumcised men were more likely to report frequent orgasm difficulties, and women with circumcised spouses more often reported incomplete sexual needs fulfillment and frequent sexual function difficulties overall, notably orgasm difficulties, and painful sexual intercourse. Thorough examination of these matters in areas where male circumcision is more common is warranted.

Circumcision is Associated with Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation (PE) is common. However, it has been underreported and undertreated. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of PE and to investigate possible associated factors of PE. This cross-sectional study was conducted at a primary care clinic over a 3-month period in 2008. Men aged 18-70 years attending the clinic were recruited, and they completed self-administered questionnaires. A total of 207 men were recruited...

Their mean age was 46.0 years. The prevalence of PE was 40.6%. No significant association was found between age and PE. Multivariate analysis showed that erectile dysfunction, circumcision, and sexual intercourse =5 times in 4 weeks were predictors of PE. These associations need further confirmation.

Hes saying being cut robbed him of his sexual prowess like he'd be a pornstar with a foreskin...if hes going to say its unethical to some people but so is abortion & adoption to some people...
its not like his penis doesn't work id like to know what is wrong to really have a comment....
From what i've most women in general like a cut one anyway...
to quot one woman's comment that made me laugh "a "cut" penis...it doesn't look like a fricken ant eater."..as to one of the reasons she likes cut penis...

In the first place there is no denying that his penis was damaged. It was originally there with a foreskin as mature intended it. The foreskin is aside from other things a major erogenous zone, I can say this because I have one and believe me when I say that it is, and if a choice was forced on me I would chose to have a finger cut of rather then the foreskin. In reality lets face it no one has any business to cut chunks of healthy tissue of anyone. As for the reasoning surrounding abortion and adoption these are other issues with their own criterion. If you are right about women preferring a penis mutilated through circumcision that would be hard to believe as more then 80% of the men of the world have intact genitalia and most of the Wolds women would not even know that there is such a thing as circumcision let alone having seen it in real life. I will put a few further comments and a link below if you are interested in finding out more on this subject. It sounds to me that you are the victim a cultural conditioning rather then informed reasoning. http://www.circumcision.org/i...

His parents had it done. He should sue them. Besides if losing his prepuce has so severely affected his sexual prowess, he is in trouble anyway. All the prepuce does is to keep the end covered and plays no part at all in the reproductive cycle.

Lame. Pretty hard to prove "robbed him of his sexual prowess". No evidence to support this - and no way to prove it.

There was no deviation from standard of care with respect to doing the procedure, and unless there was actual mutilation, no provable damage. Furthermore, he would have to go with medical standards at the time - people have only been getting upset about circumcision in the last few years, not 28 years ago.

I suspect that 28 years, he's grasping at straws to find someone to blame for not being good with - or for - the ladies. Circumcision isn't about prowess. It may affect how you feel about yourself, but only if you let it. Never had problems with mine 8-D

He needs to sue his mother. How does he know that the doctors told her that it was a medical emergency? You don't think that his mother might lie to cover up her own decision or to help him sue the hospital hoping that they will just pay him off do you? Sounds to me like someone is just out to get some money.

I just read the news report. I should have known. Throw the suit out.
