Everyone has to be quiet.. if they let him stay there and "talk to his voices"..that would be discrimination against the quiet people

Libraries have to be quiet. Respect other people that are using it for research.

    Nope.

Breaking the rules is breaking the rules and I assume he was doing that in some way. He could either get some meds to quiet those voices a little or come back a different time.

No....crazy people don't get a pass from disturbing the peace. The end. Call the guys in the white suits and get him or her the hell out.

We don't know why he was crazy. Were drugs involved? Mental damage from an accident? It doesn't matter.....the same rules apply to everyone.

What's wrong with having a conversation in the library..even if it's with yourself?
As long as he doesn't have to get loud with them for some reason....sometime voices in heads need to be yelled at a little...

if the library had a quiet rule or people were complaining that he was making too much noise, the librarian has the right to kick anyone out that is too loud

RACISM The man "just happened" to be black so he was quickly arrested, shoved around by the police, and then locked in a cage full of criminals. Yet he was obviously mentally ill. RACISM! Whites talk to their blue tooth earpiece all the time and are never arrested. An ILL black man talks to his inter galactic blue tooh and he gets the full prosecution treatment. RACISM! The NAACP is ON THE CASE!

In my opinion, he's just talking to himself! The guy's ill, he doesn't see anything wrong with it, he may not even be aware and it's not like he's hurting anybody. He obviously isn't a danger to others or he'd be institutionalised. If people feel uncomfortable around this man, that is their problem, they can't be worried about the young people around because children are much more accepting than adults. I don't see how he was causing a disturbance at all. Obvious discrimination, but people are scared to have an opinion on situations involving the mentally ill.

However, it's a library so you're not supposed to be talking :P
  • The Gov... Pandora ;) 2010/04/04 18:15:00
    The Gov-Here to help BN362
So if he was sane you wouldn't have a problem with him causing a disturbance?

As a 'sane' person you don't get kicked out of a library for having a little chat with a friend. Libraries aren't completely silent, it says nothing about him screaming or anything, so it wasn't a disturbance at all.

Yes!!! How rude!! i speak to my inner demon all the time! How do you think i live in this whacked out society!!!????!! (LOL!!)
no but really.... i think that was wrong. he can't help it if he has mental problems. If It was a severe safety issue, then very well, help the man find his books and lead him out.. but he should have not been kicked out because of it. Sounds like there were people there that got offended and need to learn to grow up! And if you have a child, you should explain to that child that some people have these type of problems so it doesn't scare the child. if it is too much for you, you leave then come back another time! Life is not about "SELF!"

Mentally ill or not, we all have to follow rules. We have become overly indulgent to the handicapped.

Let me give you a few examples. Mentally challenged kids in wheelchairs are integrated into normal classrooms so that we can all pretend we see no differences. These kids can be disruptive, wet themselves, or just aren't intelligent enough to grasp the lessons in a normal classroom. We are then accommodating one or two children's "self-esteem" to the detriment of the class as a whole. We have handicapped-only parking surrounding our shopping malls, with only a few in use. Shopping malls are like mini cities, so if the handicapped need special parking, how are they going to ambulate in a big mall? Accommodating the handicapped has become an expensive burden to all of us.

Wow, that is so narrow minded and almost naive. How would you feel if you were that handicapped person or a parent of one? Just because a person is in a wheelchair or their brain may function differently to yours does not necessarily mean they are disruptive or stupid, as you are making them out to be. People with opinions like yours make me feel sick.
  • joejoe Pandora ;) 2010/04/05 15:07:48
    joejoe
If I were the parent of a handicapped child, I would realistically look at its limitations. "Stupid" is a derogatory word I didn't use, you put that word into my mouth. Many handicapped children are retarded, so naturally they don't have the intelligence to fit into a regular classroom. Sadly, they are often teased by classmates. If handicapped people can fit into a situation without it being difficult for others, then fine. However, that's often not the case.

It's too bad you cannot debate an opposing viewpoint without getting angry. If you remain calm and eloquent about your opinions, others who think differently may be influenced by your thoughts, but to refuse to debate weakens your points.
