It's really quite sad that this is split right down the middle as of right now. 50% said no, and that's your right. I just hope you or your loved ones don't ever need a life saving operation. who knows what tomorrow will bring, I know that today I am healthy and if my sacrifice means someone else doesn't have to go thru another day of dialysis, then I am happy.

If our loved ones needed a life saving operation, we won't have one to sacrifice because we would have given it to a stranger.

with regard to this issue, i think it depends on the situation and the receiver who will take my organ.

If I were healthy and could save a stranger's life, one who was at death's door and waiting for a transplant, I'd give him a kidney. Unfortunately, I'm NOT healthy, so the question is moot. The reason I'm gung-ho about organ donation is because my sister-in-law had a kidney transplant, although the donor was my niece. And my ex-husband had a successful liver transplant, and it was donated from a stranger who had passed away. The surgery saved both their lives. PLEASE everybody, if you're healthy and able to do so, fill out the "organ donor" portion of your driver's license. It will help save a life!

I don't see why not. If they were dying. I mean, I'm pretty sure I have two, and they probably need it more.

i don't think you 48% (at present) would, you probably think you would, but if the oppurtunity arose?

you could do it, just go into hospital now, i'm sure they'd comply.
  • Flowers Willski 2011/04/07 13:03:54
    Flowers
there is testing that needs to be done, blood tests and more indepth analysis of your organs. It's not free, and most insurances won't cover it just cuz you want to be nice. There has to be a reason for the donation as far as I know. I don't have the money to pay for the testing, but if it was proposed to me that I would be a match to a stranger, I WOULD walk into the hospital this second.

nothing personal against you, but the vast majority of humans are far to selfish to do that. especially if they get told the risks and repurcussions of it.
(not that i know then in depth...)

humans are selish, i completely agree. that is evident when a person lays brain dead in the hospital from an auto accident and the family refuses to donate his completely viable organs just cuz "they are his". people are disgustingly selfish :(

hehe, i want to agree with you, and criticize them, because i do.
but i also know i'm one of those people who wouldn't share his spare parts, so that feels awfully hypocritical.

I was actually thinking about that a couple days ago. It's a very strange question because if I actually met the person and they desperately needed it, I might be guilted into it. But from a distance, no.

    Definitely an organ donor, though.

If it wasn't anything that I needed, sure why not. I'm apparently not needing it to live.

I don't know. I mean, it's not that I wouldn't give it to the person out of spite or something, but I don't like "going under the knife", and I don't like operations.

Not me ! I want to be laid out with all the organs that I was born with. Thank you. Organ
donation is a very charitable act but it is not something that I am interested in doing.

I do not believe in organ donation. You get what you are born with. Everyone dies, it is just a matter of when.
