There are no shortage of trolls online, especially when the topic of flying comes up on any news website around the world. The members of our populations that get the biggest beating in online comments about annoyances when flying are children and babies. Well, looks like Malaysian Airlines has been listening.

Malasian Airlines is to ban babies traveling in first class on the airline's new Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-400 fleet.

So what about the parents of said children who can afford to, and prefer to fly first class? Do they send the children to economy with the nanny? What do you think, is it fair to ban babies and children from first class?

We pay extra to fly in comfort, not to hear a baby screaming it's lungs out because it's ears are popping from the altitude shift or just because they're bored.

Toddlers should be banned as well, I'm sick of paying extra to sit in first class only to spend the following hours having some snotty 3 year old kicking the back of my seat or running up and down the aisles while their parents do nothing because they think it's "cute".

Babies don't necessarily make good travelers. Just because you can afford first class doesn't mean you get to annoy everyone there. Go to coach where the rest of us don't have any choice in the matter.

See, for the older children there is xanax and for the babies there is benadryl. Give em' a dose and they'll be really happy or really sleepy. Hell, you might even want to split a xanax with your kid and you can both have a happy flight. :P

My daughter had an array of allergies as an infant, including a true allergy (not just an intolerance) to all things dairy. She'd break out in hives at the merest hint of dairy of infant formula and had to be given benedryl. You're right! She was our energizer bunny baby--wouldn't even sleep in the car because she'd miss something, but benedryl would zone her out for hours.

Oh, absolutely! Let's do it here in the States, and carry it a step further,
banning them from restaurants and libraries, as well. Parents mistakenly
believe that *everyone* is in love with their brats.

Kind of reasonable , people pay extra to get all of the perks of First Class . I doubt a baby is really going to care, lol !

It's ABOUT TIME! People should be fined or imprisoned or BOTH for subjecting their fellow passengers to their screaming infants throughout an entire flight!

My wife and I recently paid for an upgrade from Amsterdam to Los Angeles only to find there was a couple with a screaming infant in the row behind us. It is OUTRAGEOUS how little regard anyone has for anyone else these days. It's always "ME, ME ME!" and to hell with anyone else.

Narcissism is destroying our society. It's time to have respect for others. My parents would never have DREAMED of taking me on a plane or even out to a restaurant when I was a baby. And that's another thing - I won't even go out to restaurants anymore because of all the screaming babies.

Note to parents: Nobody wants to hear your screaming baby. Either keep them from screaming, or keep them AT HOME!

restaurants screaming babies parents hear screaming baby screaming home no babies allowed

Me too. We were coming home on a long flight from Hawaii, dead tired and it was about 6 p.m. so it was an all nighter. We weren't in first class but we had the first seats behind the restrooms with plenty of leg room. A young couple got on the plane with a small child and asked us to change seats with them so they could put the baby down on the floor to sleep. I said NO, but I would hold the child and he could sleep on my lap. Well that wasn't good enough. They wanted our seats so THEY could be more comfortable, and the heck with us. My feelings were if they could afford to take a child with them to Hawaii then they should have bought it a seat. They stalked away in a huff and made snotty comments about us, but other passengers gave us thumbs up. People just expect so much out of others but they aren't willing to give an inch.

It's just amazing how narcissistic people have gotten. There used to be standards of acceptable public behavior when I was growing up. Something called "common sense" and "common values" existed in our society. People even dressed up when they went out out of respect for other people. Now you see people wearing jeans with holes in them, sandals and ripped t-shirts. How pleasant! What's next - not bathing?

I agree 100%. It really galls me when I see kids acting up anywhere and getting away with it. My kids knew better and they knew what would happen if they did. But today so many parents just seem to be afraid to discipline the little "darlings." And you are so right about the dress code anymore. People don't even dress up to go to church.

You can hardly even talk to a child much less hug them without being arrested for molestation. And parents can't discipline their kids anymore because of the lawyers. I just saw recently how a woman was lectured by a judge that she was not allowed to spank her child!

This country is getting all PC f'd up. I am 44 years old. When I was a kid as young as 6 years old I began flying with my parents all over the country and the Caribbean. I was always well behaved and was always a little gentleman. I always behaved when I went to restaraunts and other public places as well. My parents would discipline me as needed-- no friggin "time outs" or anything like that either. My parents also had the intelligence not to bring me places when I was a baby either. It just wasn't right. They had enough class not to impose their baby on everyone else. It is called common decency, common sense and just plain friggin' using your head!! Now, I have two sons who are now 13 and 17. My wife and I also had the brains not to bring the boys to restaraunts, theaters and yes, on planes when they were babies because it plain wasn't right, and besides, think about this one --- It wasn't fair to the children either!!

So you were born in '66 or '67. That's amazing because that's when the baby boomers like me were having kids and all this stuff started.
    Good for your parents.

quite agree. children should be banned from business class as well - in fact every row apart from the last two. I was on a Qantas plane once flying first class - which I rarely do and had this five year old there creating havoc for the whole twenty four hour flight to London. not fun!!!

I know how you feel. The last flight we were on I had a kid kicking my seat. I put up with it for a little while hoping the parents would make him stop, when I saw that was not gonna happen, I stood up, turned around and politely told them to make that kid stop kicking the seat. They were just stunned that I had the nerve to ask them to do that, but the kid stopped kicking my seat. I had my MEAN face on. Guess I scared the little darlin! lol He was very quiet the rest of the trip home. lol

When I was a kid, my parents and I rode in a taxicab and I was kicking the driver's seat. He turned around and said, "If you don't stop kicking my seat, I'm going to cut off your legs!" My parents just laughed! I stopped kicking his seat!

nothing which some decent headphones couldn't hide. I am not on some airline winge fest but one other thing which really gets on my back is people who tilt their seats back on short flights immediately after take off whist the rest of us are trying to have our meal or work if it is a commuter flight.

I know, some people have no concern for others at all. Wonder how they would feel if you spilled some coffee or coke on their head. I'll bet the seat would be raised up pretty quick. lol

They seemed to think that would have been a safe place for the baby and it was a pretty large area. They just wanted our seats so that they could be comfortable. And I never heard that baby cry during the entire flight.

Your childish analogy is puerile and stupid. Do overweight people cry, scream and whine constantly? In future, there will be a special "babies compartment" on all flights where you can enjoy a cacophony of those wonderful sounds which you appear to enjoy.

My thoughts exactly! Honestly one sodaheader complained about people being narcissistic when he sounded even more narcissistic himself. Some of the other posts that I have seen made me want to ‘facepalmed’ myself so many times I’m about to give myself a headache. I can almost guarantee that at one point or another every one of these “elitists” bawled and annoyed other people in public no matter how “angelic” they claim to be as children. In all frankness I sat next to these kinds of obnoxious people on planes before and PREFERED the child’s cry instead. At least the kid is being a kid; the adult was just being an ass.
