Maine Voters Repeal Gay Marriage Law - Gay marriage has now lost in every single state -- 31 in all

- PORTLAND, Maine -- Maine voters have torpedoed a state law that would have allowed gay couples to marry.

With 84 percent of the precincts reporting, gay-marriage foes had 53 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Gay marriage has now lost in every single state -- 31 in all -- in which it has been put to a popular vote. Gay-rights activists had hoped to... Read full article »

It's nice to see that after the Woman's Sufferage and the Civil Rights struggles that people still think that they can and should deny the rights of others because they win a vote by a slim margin. What a proud day for society!!!

I hope all those who voted to repeal are ashamed of themselves.

Obviously this law is not very popular amongst the people of the United States and therefore has been defeated yet once again. Marriage has become a very sensitive topic to speak of these days amongst anyone really and it seems everyone has an opinion either for or against it. We must all follow the law to the letter and if the vote defeated the issue then we as law abiding citizens must obey the law and conform. It seems that there is a certain number of the population that wants this same sex marriage issue to go away and then there are those who will stop of nothing short of a change in the laws we now have.

My personal opinion is with the side of the population that is against same sex marriage.

Actually VOTING on gay marriage is illegal and unconstitutional since it has to do with civil rights and rights of a minority group. Also, it's a private issue that is not legal to vote on by the public. Sorry but the population might also vote for segregation and slavery but that doesn't make their votes 'LEGAL"

We would have a whole lot less bigotry if we didn't have Christianity stomping on the rights of women, African-Americans and the LGBT community. Christianity has never been in the forefront of progress for mankind, it has only pursued the entrapment of the mind.

uh, if you're gay it makes no sense to marry someone of the opposite sex. Your comment is EXACTLY why this issue should not be voted on. People who aren't gay just think it doesn't matter because they don't understand it from gay people's point of view. unfortunately for us gay people you think you actually have the right to bud into our lives and decide our personal legal and relationship matters.

i'm sorry, i get passionate about it. to me your comment about it 'not making any sense to you' is exactly why i don't understand why NON gay people get to vote on the legal standing of our committed and personal relationships. I guess I shouldn't assume that you're bigoted because of that.

again, it's not YOUR decision to make it's gay PEOPLE"S decision to make. and it's a civil rights issue so thusly it's between us and the court system.

the people make the rules... the majority rules here in America...I got a question for you...How is it ok to abort a baby.. But, if a man kills a fetus in a car wreck.. he is charged w/ murder??????????...maybe, you can explain it to me..

no the majority does NOT rule in civil rights cases. the majoriity can't vote on something that goes against someone's civil rights. Again, this is what the supreme court in iowa said when they legalized gay marriage and i believe it's what the federal supreme court will say too. why do you think you should have the right to go against the bill of rights? why would you want to? Also, as far as abortion goes I don't know why the laws are the way they are.

    catch 22?

what catch 22? Are you talking about abortion now? I"m pretty conservative when it comes to abortions. I'll bet im more consistent on my views than many. I'm AGAINST late term abortions and I believe that all other abortions should be highly regulated and only done when it meets those regulations. Also I'm anti-death penalty and I only believe in war in self defense.

I'm against illegal immigration except in certain cases where assylum is sought because of war and ethnic cleaninsing etc. Othewise I believe people should have to get green cards to work and become legal aliens. This is what i have to do if i move to a different country. I don't know what to do about the illegals that are already here though.
