Paper is dying, but also the newspapers themselves are dying since people are realizing how ridiculously biased they are. The internet had an unforeseen consequence: anyone can fact check the B.S. they see in the NYTimes.

Agreed. Eventhough the net has BS too I still double-check everything.

That's true, the net probably has even more BS (a lot of these newspapers now control the popular websites), but it's a LOT easier to get opposing views.

Ya, I have to hear it from different angles and opinions and then I can form my own. I don't think too many of us will take much at face value anymore. We are a society that has an opinion and most aren't afraid to express it.

Not as much as the record industry, but computers and the Internet has definitely taken its toll on reading material as well.

So true and sad about the recording industry, I feel like I'm in the minority of people who actually buy cd's and dvd's. Woe be upon the fool that touches my vinyl, lol

I love to read a magazine and look at the pictures. l love to get cataloges.
Everything changes. Some changes we accept willingly and others take
us a little longer to get used to.

How much will you pay to read ads? Probably not much. How much of a magazine is devoted to ads? Quite a bit. I still read Time magazine and the Chronicle of Higher Education, but I avoid many other magazine 'genres'. The majority of magazines encourage spending and materialism- something I'm trying to get away from (fashion, technology lifestyle mags=$$$$).

Sadly I think both printed magazines and books are an endangered species. In fact there's a lot of people around that don't seem to be able to read more than 144 characters at a time. If you look around you will see a lot of book stores and magazine shops have closed up.

Personally I have a large library. I love books & magazines and will keep buying them as long as possible.

In the late 1400's the printing press revolutionized how to store information. Then in the late 1900's the computer began revolutionizing how to store information. It's hard to conceive of what the next info storage revolution will be. Maybe a pill?

They will go he way of the newspapers. When the truth became incidental and unimportant the value of reading newspapers disappeared. It was great surprise when a newspaper disclosed the Parks and Recreational scandal recently. This used to be a common occurrence. Murdoch and his cronies have destroyed the print media.

I hope not. When at the grocery store today, I saw one of the fish wrappers that said "Guess what celebrity weighs 418 Lbs. now?" I did not buy it, but sure did want to know who it was. When I came home and asked google, nothing came up. Now I will wonder who this celebretard is. Holding a magazine, reading it, flipping through papers and mailing in all the little "buy me" cards that fall out with no info on them, would not be the same to read it all on line. Same with newspapers.

Chock full of advertisements. I know the publishing companies have bills to pay, but--if you have checked out Vanity Fair...cheeeezus! I enjoy their articles, but now that Christopher Hitchen's voice has been quieted...such a great loss! He was brilliant.

Yes and most deserve to die. They are thoroughly biased and lack intellectual depth.

The juvenile left-wing activism has deprived them of credibility.

The men who founded these magazines were journalists and capitalists. Their legacies have been trashed by third-raters.
