In Christian mythology, he was an angel. One of god's truly favored, until god created mankind and demanded that the angels bow before them. Lucifer refused and was cast into hell for his rebellion.
According to the story, he was an angel who decided that he could run the show better (like Obama), so he came to earth to mingle with the unenlightened beings there (like Obama), made up the rules as he went along (like Obama) and blamed mankind for all of the messes that resulted (like Obama.)
Lucifer was an angel who led a group of 1/3 of the other angels who tried to kill God the Father and take His throne and position from Him. God successfully defeated him with the help of the remaining 2/3 of the angels and with the help of people and all the creatures of nature, who came to life to help God. Lucifer was from that point known as Satan.
It was Satan who was actually responsible for the crucifixion of Christ...
I have seen names for others of the fallen angels, but Satan is the only one I know of named in the Bible...
Beelzebub..."lord of the files". A pseudonym for Satan in the Bible. There are others, but Satan is the standard for referring to him, althiough "the devil" is common too...
"How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High’" (Isaiah 14:12-14, NIV).
very good One Arya! are you familar with John Miltons Paradise lost? " Hurled into hell, he was unafraid of Gods thunderbolts, a third of Gods angels he led with him. Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven

Now in a way he is a god, in his own realm, and worshipped by many.
