Churches have long offered counseling and support groups for their male parishioners struggling with addiction to pornography. The Westside Family Church in Lenexa, Kansas is also now offering a similar program for women.
The Victory Over Porn Addiction was started in 2008 by Crystal Renaud who started the group in response to her own struggles with porn addiction. “In the Christian culture, women are supposed to be the nonsexual ones,” said Ms. Renaud to the New York Times. “It’s an injustice that the church is not more open about physical sexuality. God created sex. But the enemy has twisted it.”
Ms. Renaud’s program differs from standard sexual therapy in treating masturbation and arousal as sins, and not as a normal part of healthy sexuality. Weekly assignments include prayer, Christian fellowship and accountability partners to help stay focused on the goal of abstinence.
And for God’s sake, stay away from pay-per-view!
