For millions of women across the world, virginity isn't merely something special to gift their first love, it's a requirement for staying alive. These women usually live in Middle Eastern cultures where a woman who has lost her virginity before marriage could very well be murdered by her family in socially accepted 'honor killings.'
One might think that the threat of death would be enough to convince women to remain chaste, however biological drives appear to be stronger than moral or religious ones and many women lose their virginity outside the bonds of marriage. What happens to these women afterward often depends largely on luck and resources. Some commit suicide, others are killed by their families, and some manage to get away with it by using various tricks to deceive their husbands into believing that they are virgins.
Many women who have the money have their hymens surgically reattached. A hymenoplasty takes just 30 minutes under local anesthetic, and plenty of women are taking the offer to be virgins again. One Paris based Arab surgeon admits that he performs 2-3 hymenoplasties every week.
For those without the funds to have virginity restoring operations, there are cheaper options. The Chinese began producing fake hymens a few years ago. These devices are thin pieces of plastic that rupture inside the vagina and produce the illusion of virginal blood. They cost around $30 USD.
The requirement that a woman be a virgin when she is married is a requirement of control. However the modern world is making it easier for women to circumvent traditional measures of control, and unsurprisingly, many men aren't happy about that. Muslim clerics were outraged at the introduction of fake Chinese hymens and one imagines that they're even less thrilled about surgical reattachment. 30 minutes under local anesthetic isn't a high price to pay for sexual emancipation, and it is a price that increasing numbers of Middle Eastern women are willing to pay.
Sexual equality may come to the Middle East not with a bang, but a whimper - and perhaps a little fake bloodletting.

+13A few things cleared up:
1.Honor killings are a SIN in Islam
2.It is a totally cultural and traditional thing to participate in honor killings
3.Penalty for that is death
Sadly many people confuse it with Islamic "recommendation" just becuase it originates from the Middle East (including majority of the extremist "muslims").
Now these fake virginity options can save a lot of lives of women who have been raped which would make them (the fake virginity options) acceptable according to religion...on the other hand women could now get away with sleeping with other men and still trick their husbands. Even so i think they should be allowed, if the woman wants to commit sin then it is her problem but i don't want the image of Islam to be ruined anymore by those filthy hypocrites killing women

You're a child, raised in the worst of Religions. It's the Law in Islam, to treat people "brutally", It's against the Law to treat people that way in civilized society. You'd better re-think you position on this matter, before it's too late.
Especially over something that seems so trivial in comparision to other matters.
I think the hymenoplasty is a form of deceit for women...especially if they want their partner to believe they were always a virgin. Marriage is supposed to be based on mutual love and affection and a desire to be with someone the rest of your life, not the fact someone assumes you are a virgin. This article makes me glad that America is a melting-pot and that we don't have official religions or "honour killings" of people.
1.Honor killings are a SIN in Islam you cannot kill someone who has not killed someone else intentionally
2.It is a totally cultural ( cultural meaning their own beliefs they made up outside of religion) and traditional thing to participate in honor killings a tradition that goes back to the societies ancestral heritage even before it accepted islam
3.Penalty for doing a honor killing is death because now u have killed someone who did not deserve to die
Sadly many people confuse it with Islamic "recommendation" just becuase it originates from the Middle East (including majority of the extremist "muslims"). and if a person introduces a matter into islam which is not valid then this new innovation is rejected and only those who are blame worthy of sin follow it. following innovations in religion takes one out of the fold or true islam and this person is no longer a true believer in islam.
