Little Kid Gives Awesome Speech About Gay Marriage...

Woman of many faces~ijm 2012/06/15 16:23:09

Kameron was allowed to choose any topic he wanted for a school-wide
speech contest, so he chose same-sex marriage. Kameron won for his
class, but when he tried to give the speech in front of the whole
school, the principal said it was an inappropriate topic. He either had
to change it or drop out.

So, he dropped out.

Luckily he gave his awesome speech to NY1.

Watch his speech below:

This kid is a great example of what a tolerant loving parent he has. He's obviously smart and well on his way to being a strong voice for his generation.

ok, I'm going to piss of libs/progs/gay extremists....there is no way this kid knows what he is talking about...this is simply propaganda that has been fed to him....how many children even care about this issue or know about this issue? The language he is using is not his vocabulary....he was used by his mom or other politically motivated adult to push their agenda....this is shameful exploitation of the worst sort...using kids as props...they should be ashamed of themselves...but to tell the truth they aren't. Extremists don't care about the children, it's all for the "cause". It's too easy to applaud such displays...I'm more upset with the principal who did away with the Lee Greenwood song "God Bless the USA and replaced it with Justin Beiber's "baby, baby"

People misunderstand the ability of even small children to act and pretend. Spontaneous? No way. Taught and rehearsed? Definitely. Now, why do I think that a young child giving a speech about something not PC would have folks jumping all over what the little kid was being taught?

You obviously don't know any 4th or 5th grade kids. They're quite smart and if he has a family that encourages him to read and think and learn about things, he's certainly more than capable of being able to talk intelligently about any subject.

dude, I'm a teacher!!! I can spot when a parent does their homework in a new york minute!!

Your comment is beyond silly....sort of like an administrator who once said children never lie....the administrator was single and never had kids, he was talking out of his ass on a subject he knew nothing about......much like you just did!!!

So you're a teacher that thinks 4th and 5th grade kids don't have the ability to speak intelligently?! You shouldn't be teaching. I have raised 2 children who are 15 and 17 and way smarter than you'll ever be. I have also worked with kids for over a decade, and I have met some extremely smart, insightful kids. Even kids with emotional disturbance/behavioral problems that were more articulate than you are. It is teachers like you that give public education in our country a bad name. You should be ashamed.

I do certainly hope your kids are much more intelligent than you...that gives me hope for the future.....

Your post should make you ashamed...you accuse me of things that I didn't say, you also post your own biases and project your biases onto others...that's just sick...

Because your post was so unbiased? ".there is no way this kid knows what he is talking about...this is simply propaganda that has been fed to him." "he was used by his mom or other politically motivated adult to push their agenda"

That's all extremely judgmental and biased. Nevermind that you can't seem to use appropriate capitalization, and punctuation and over use ellipses. I find it hard to believe you are in fact a teacher.

So pot, next time you call a kettle black, you may want to take a glance in the mirror first.

4th and 5th grade kids are able, when pressed, to think independently. What makes you think that this little guy is 9 or 10? He looks about 6.

    He's a fifth grader. http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt...

A Queens, New York fifth-grader named Kameron Slade won a class competition and was slated to deliver a speech as part of a school-wide competition at PS 195.

I work with gifted/talented 4th and 5th graders. Though I applaud the young man's attitude, his word usage leads me to believe that he had more than a little help with his speech. That's all well and good, provided it wasn't against the rules of the competition.

Well, I'm sure, like any good parent does, his mom talks to him and encourages learning. My kids were very articulate at that age as well. We encouraged lots of reading and regularly used large vocabulary. It really isn't that difficult to believe a kid can independently think. It's so sad when people assume he's not actually that smart because they don't like the subject matter.

I'm not saying he's not smart or thinking independently, but if you think he's thinking outside the box he's been taught from his mom, you're crazy. He is not. I don't think that it's a taboo subject, either. I also don't see why people are making a big deal about it one way OR the other.

You don't think that by seeing the interactions with his mom's friends, being around conversations with his mom and her friends and observing the way his mom's friends' kid gets treated at school, seeing the news and asking his mom questions, he could have drawn some of these conclusions? I mean he doesn't say anything very profound. He's just particularly articulate. Just like, I imagine the rest of his class that didn't choose a controversial topic. I don't doubt that it's possible he's had more personal exposure to the issue, and that is perhaps what motivated him to choose such a topic. I just think people are really selling the kid short by saying he's not capable of the speech he gave.

No child that age is going to pick that subject to talk about. Sexuality is the farthest thing from their mind. A child that age is being indostrinated by his/her parents with an agenda and should be ashamed of themselves putting those thoughts in a childs head. Don't children have enough to think about just doing their schoolwork and having fun being a kid?
  • LuridLo... Kronan_1 2012/06/16 22:34:41
    LuridLolita
To the contrary, I can inform you that sexuality and biases in the preference is in fact prevelant in the minds of children. Humans are born with sexual impulses and with instinctual tendencies towards subjects such as masturbation and by the age of nine a child understands the elementary etiquette of relationships, including the subject of marriage.

He had the choice to pick any topic he wanted and that was the one he picked, so clearly it does have a place in grade school. Children should never be told that they aren't allowed to write about what they want on a topic of their choice. It met the criteria and he did a fantastic job for his age.

I would have given them all a list of topics related to study level and topics covered during the year because not nearly enough time is spent on any single subject - would have given each of them more information and expanded their knowledge on subjects they liked during the year. I would not give a happy damn what they thought about Lady Gaga, the latest electronic game or gay marriage.

But this kid, they find just a good, intelligent christian child:
