Who wouldn't want to live forever ... frozen solid ... in a tub of liquid nitrogen?

Robert Ettinger, the physics teacher and science fiction writer who pioneered cryonics, passed away at age 92.

Ettinger's 1962 treatise, “The Prospect of Immortality,” imagined a world where bodies were quickly frozen after death and kept in statis. Ettinger believed that future doctors and scientists would surely one day be able to cure whatever precipitated your demise.

The idea caught on, as a curiosity at first. Later, Ettinger would help other cryonics organizations, and even see competing cryonics companies.

Ettinger's son David told The Washington Post that his father's health had declined recently.

“We’re obviously sad,” David said. But “we were able to freeze him under optimum conditions, so he’s got another chance.”

Yes, Ettinger now resides at the Cryonics Institute in Clinton Township, Mich., with the frozen bodies of his mother and first and second wives. He told The Detroit News last year, “If both of my wives are revived, that will be a high class problem.”

The institute houses 106 humans and many pets.

Though it would be cool, I wouldn't want to be woken up again old and crusty the same as I died. Unless of course I die young. I think I'd rather just stay dead.

Freezing destroys the tissues. I don't believe anyone will ever be revived. There isn't a cure for death, so no sense wasting the money.

Water expands when frozen, and we are 96% water. Freezing bursts all the bodies cell membranes causing unrepairable damage.

    Hmmmm, I'll think about it.

Honestly, when I am dead, I am dead. Why would I care what happens to my body and property and so? As long as my loved ones are given the rights to my property, then I could care less about anything else.

I am just concerned about where I will be going after I die.

care body property loved rights property care concerned die heaven jesus

I want to die and give my body to science...my soul will be elsewhere...so do with it what you will--I won't care :-)

So what happens...if your soul leaves your body when you die....and your body gets frozen...does the soul know to come back to it after so many years....and would it want to? If not, would you just be a breathing shelll of a person.

Hell no, and I don't want to be cremated after I die, either. Both strike me as creepy.

At first glance cremation is best but if freezing was cheaper and I died soon instead of at 80, I would love to wake up and see who the new world superpower will be. I will be a real zombie so screw you jebus!

Harvest my useful organs, burn the rest of me, and scatter my ashes somewhere in the dessert, maybe the Grand Canyon, or Laughlin, but don't preserve me like some museum artifact.
