Liberals Lie About Homeschooling?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/05/24 04:01:19

As part of their socialization criticism, public school officials like to portray homeschooled children as poor little wretches isolated against their will by overbearing, anti-social parents. Predictably, just the opposite is true. “Research has shown the positive effects of homeschooling through the years. While some critics say teaching at home may stunt their social growth, Dr. Brian D. Ray, president of the National Home Education Research Institute, reveals homeschooled students fare well or better than public and private school students in terms of social, emotional and psychological development. Additionally, homeschoolers earn higher marks than peers who attend public schools. In Academic Leadership, an online journal, Dr. Ray and Bruce K. Eagleson…cite findings from at least three nationwide studies across the United States and two nationwide studies in Canada. ‘The home educated in grades K-12 have scored, on average, at the 65th to 80th percentile on standardized academic achievement tests in the United States and Canada, compared to the public school average of the 50th percentile.’”

As to the claim that homeschooling is just another form of white elitism, the left—as it often does—ignores the facts. But calling homeschooling another form of white elitism amounts to more than just ignoring the facts, it is an example of the soft bigotry of the left because it assumes that skin color controls the thoughts of people. White parents are divided about sending their children to public school versus private school versus homeschooling. Why, then, should liberals assume that black parents are not divided in the same way?

In fact, the fastest growing component of the homeschooling movement in America is comprised of African-American parents who cite the same reasons for choosing this option as their Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, and multi-ethnic counterparts.

I heard them talking about that 'anti-social' crap years ago, too. That's so overrated it's not funny. If I had kids, I'd homeschool them for sure-- and they'd socialize PLENTY.

Very interesting that blacks are doing this increasingly now. So many want the best possible education for their kids, and they're just not getting it in the schools. I think that's brilliant!

Homeschooling parents might use homeschooling as a way to educate their children, and also give them a hands on training, especially if they own their own business...nothing like understanding a business while getting an education so you can choose your own path. Some teens get out of school and wander around in life wondering what or where they need to be because theyve been so sheltered. I guess TRUST can also be a huge factor, that begins with the family. 2012. homeschooling choices t shirt

I've seen a mixed bag. Some home schooled kids come to us as fairly well prepared, while others are complete basket cases. It depends on the ability of the home schooling parent.

I already sew up and remove my own stitches when necessary. And I don't have a lot of faith in doctors. I'd trust myself but definitely not you!!!

Wouldn't home schooling depend on the intelligence of the teacher?

That wouldn't work well for practicing medicine, why would it work for educating children?

Too many kids today fall through a hole because of public education. I know many that would have been drop outs if not for homeschooling that are productive (working) citizens today.

There's also online help if you don't understand and there is a number to call where someone will walk you through the material until you understand it...

It seems you are talking about some type of public or private school program instead of homeschooling.

I am 100% in favor of home schooling. By keeping young children out of the public and private school system, the new regime can't get it's socialist/communist tentacles around them to brainwash and indoctrinate like they did during Hitler's reign.

    Very interesting article ..
PARENTS .. responsible, caring ones ..
will always WANT The BEST for their children ..
(whether it is medical care, food, clothing, shelter .. or education)
    doesn't matter the 'surface' ..
parents who have the option, resources and time can choose ..
    to Homeschool ..
and with that .. comes a lot of social interaction ..
for many also choose to volunteer extensively
(and take their children along to volunteer too).

Keep in mind that I think you should disregard the findings for Canada. We're all pretty liberal, at least in comparison to the people in the US. Also, the conservative vs liberal thing doesn't exist in the same way up here. When we have an issue, we talk about it and eventually come to an agreement that benefits both sides. In America, you have adopted the "my way or highway" attitude on both sides, so your politics are self-serving at best. I have no problem with homeschooling so long as it's facts and not beliefs being taught.

My sister home schooled her 3 sons until they were old enough for high school, and all 3 of the boys have grown up to be fine, strong willed, very good citizens, working, raising families, paying taxes! One is a Firefighter, one is a Christian missionary, and one is an Educational administrator and there isn't a vice in all of them combined! The left will demonize anything they can't control!

    It's just big-government, socialist, teachers-union foo-frah!
THEY want to steal our money and brain-wash our kids.
So they lie and demonize anybody who wants to educate kids differently.
