At 18, except in rare cases, I think the youth SHOULD still be living at home with their parents. I wouldn't recommend living on one's own until at least 21. At 18, you're still sort of a kid. Too young to move out, in my opinion.

He's the guy that got Bristol Palin pregnant while her mum was running for VP of the USA and preaching chastity for unmarried people. Surely you're kidding me, though? Doesn't everyone know that?

I'm a woman that does need to desperately move out of my parents. The thing is, its not that good of a thing for most guys. Some guys in a similar situation to mine, they are my friends but not my ideal people to date. Especially when some are like 2 to 4 years older than me and still pretty much hasn't attempted to move out.

are you kidding? in this economy? it's more and more common right now but, as things start returning to normal [and the trend has begun] kids will be moving out in droves as soon as they're able.

as to Levi - I don't know the particulars of his situation so I'm not in a position to judge.

No, but then again, he is obviously an idiot. He earned over 1 million dollars in the last 2 yrs. He could have set up a $100,000 annuity that would have matured in 20 yrs or less and be paid for the rest of his life.... 1/10th of his earnings and he's too stupid to do that.... somebody slap that boy's daddy.... Now the idiot is living at home and can't leave.... geez....

Once the Republicans get done decimating public education, like they are here in Wisconsin. All children from working and middle class homes will be living at home after graduation.

If it is necessary, not everybody can make it quickly these days, and sometimes it happens...but it is important to respect your parents and their home, 'cause you are not a kid anymore...do not put them in awkward positions, and pay them as much as you can.
    Do not be a slug.

There are a lot of reasons why a child might still be living with parents after age 18. My parents didn't kick me out, but I was going to college, too. My daughter moved out for about a year after she turned 18 because she wanted to have some independence. She moved back home to finish her AA degree and save to go away to college. She moved back in when my ex left, to give ME moral support and help. I'm sure in many cases there are reasons, and I'm here to help my kids if/when there are reasons.

Levi Johnston? If I was HIS mom, I think I'd tell him he was on his own. He piddled away a fortune.

In New York the average rent is 1100. Unless you have a dependable job that pays enough to cover rent, utilities, and food, or trustworthy roommates, then living at home is a good option. As long as there's respect, and everyone contributes, then there's nothing wrong with it. In some cases the parents end up living with their grown children, so it all depends on how everyone gets along...

18 - sure. Lots of people are still in college then or are just starting out and don't have the money to live on their own. 21 or a year after college, whichever comes second, is about the limit unless there's a real financial hardship (not just that you're a ne'er-do-well like LJ).

I suppose one can say it is better than being homeless. Isn't that was society wants. I mean families to be responsible for one another? I certainly would have my children come home again if they were broke and out of a job. I don't think much of this one man in particular but I speak in generalities about our children.

If you are in college and going to a local college to save money, yeah...

You really should have added a "it depends" choice...

It is very tough getting started. Kids need responsibility- but also their Parent's help. I would say after about 25-30 it is time to start "kicking them to the curb"

There's an unfair social stigma in our society about it, but really, what's the big deal? Especially in the current economic climate, you do what you've gotta do.

I remember reading a study a few years ago that the average age for moving out of your parents' house had moved from 19 ten years or so ago to 27. I believe it, too.

Yeah, if your parents are in favor of it, and you at least have a part-time job and pay your parents something toward your room and board...we all have to grow up sometime. If you move home, help out with the money and expenses. or go to trade school or college, do something to secure your future.
