Free People should have choices, it seems to be good medecine, many other products can be derived from the plant ..I say YAY!! I work for the government and can't smoke it even though it's legal in Colorado :(

We used it for medicinal and recreational purposes (at least, we did in the UK) for centuries before it was made illegal. It's just a herb. And police officers don't take it very seriously, they just give you a warning usually; waste of their time.

The government could legalize it then tax it like cigarettes and draw in massive untapped revenues, tonnes of people do it anyway, why not collect some taxes on it.

Not because I do or like the drug, I detest almost all forms of drugs, the only reason I am somewhat agreeable on legalizing this drug is because it is the lesser evil of the drug world.

I don't smoke, but it's one less thing police officers have to waste their time with, instead of locking up druggies they should be locking up real criminals

Of course. I think most of the people that are against legalising it are against it because of how much money they would not be making by selling it illegaly.

Personally, I think smoking pot (or anything else) is a stupid thing to do. But them, I'm only responsible for my life, not yours.

The government has a duty to investigate and educate the public, and to regulate business. It has no duty to waste my taxes locking up people who aren't hurting me and creating foreign drug cartels who might.

People are entitled to be stupid if they want to. It's none of the government's affair.

That's neither here nor there. I think taking any drug that monkeys with the operation of the brain for other than a compelling medical reason is stupid. But that's just my opinion. Other people are free to think as they like and no as they like as long as they don't bother me. People smoking cigarettes near my bus stop impact me more than all the reefer madness on the west coast, to why is my government harassing pot smokers?

Not because I want to be able to use it (I hate smoke in general), but because of the principle of the thing. If alcohol and cigarettes are legal, then so too should pot. It's a double standard for sure, it doesn't even make people go out and hurt other people. It should just be regulated like alcohol, then it could even be taxed! Think of the revenue! haha

I don't consume it... never have and probably never will. It ought to be treated the way alcohol ought to be treated. Rules regarding usage can be defined locally by local ordinance. Crimes or accidents while under the influence should be considered aggravated and have harsher punishments and greater liability in civil suits. Any employer or association should be able to require drug screens and terminate the relationship after a positive test. A baby born testing positive is to be considered a victim of child abuse subject to the authority vested in CPS or equivalent agency. While I generally don't believe in government welfare benefits, to the extent they exist, the recipient should be subject to drug testing and may be denied benefits following a positive test. The tax payer should never be responsible for the consequences of the poor choices and behavior resulting from intoxication except to provide a cell 3 hots and a cot.

if welfare recipients should be subject to drug tests, why not all public employees as well? if your income is paid for by tax dollars, you need to piss clean or get a private sector job.

Prohibition does not work - I would have thought that lesson was learnt a very long time ago - all it does is put cash in the hands of organised crime.

    It's your body.

Personally, I can't handle marijuana. I'm too fat as it is, so what motivation would I have to smoke something that'd give me the munchies? Also, I tend to get paranoid when I'm hungry, and I may accidentally bite a chunk out of someone's leg thinking it was a ham hock.

But if someone else wants to smoke it or eat in a brownie (which seems more appetizing to me, but again, too fat), who am I to stop them?

This question is not about legalizing tobacco or making it illegal. This is about Marijuana.
If I were the one making the decisions, I would not have made it illegal to begin with. However, I am not a proponent (or an extreme opponent) of legalizing its recreational drug use either. I am a proponent of legalizing research of it to isolate and extract the active components for medicinal use along with the guarantee that the final product (pills/capsules...) will be legally marketable whether over-the-counter or via prescription.
