Recently I've been reading a whole lot and was thinking of purchasing a Kindle, but I'm not really sure if I'm the Kindle "type". I love reading but I've recently come across a few books I wanted that were only available on Kindle. I can't see myself buying a device just for a few books, but friends have told me it would be a good investment since I read a lot.

What do you prefer?

You can drop a paperback and not worry about it breaking, you don't have to worry about charging a paperback when the battery dies, if you get the paperback wet, it will dry..not die, If you loose your paperback you lost one book where if you lose your kindle you lose all of your books, your paperback will never malfunction on you. There are many reasons why I prefer books but most of all I just like the feel and smell of a new book.

I love books. The feel, the smell everything about them.
I got a Kindle and I think it is easier to use. You can get free books. Search a book. Buy books without having to go to the store. Change the size of the text.
I still read book but I read my Kindle so much more.

I have never used a kindle either, but have heard that I may be able to check one out at my library. Worth looking to see if you can try it before spending the money.

I like both. I have a Kindle Fire, which I love. I also have a small library of, mostly, paperbacks at home. I am getting most of the paperbacks I already have for the Kindle because some of them are falling apart from having been read so many times.

i have had a kindle since january and i love it and it is so much easier to read than a book and better outside reading in the sun and you have the option to make the letters bigger so you read easier..the only down side is the better books are more expensive than the e books, but there are loads of really cheap ones available...

BOTH, like paper but lets face it kindle is not bad, or apple, or any of the many other tablets. So lets save a tree and use a tablet. If we save enough trees we might have more forests forests

LOVE my Kindle. So Mine isn't the fancy 'tablet' type...just an ereader, but I don't know how I got along without it. I can't afford to keep myself in books - I read way too much. But there are SO many sites on the net that have free books...Project Gutenberg for one, that it's really the best answer. Good luck!

very fine points all of them the one you left out is also very important, you just killed another tree, that no longer needed to die.

I don't know about how it works in other provinces, states or countries, but where I live, each tree cut down gets replaced by a new one.

As Panloker says, this is not true for everywhere. I believe that in Australia (where I live) all books - that is, to my knowledge - published here are made from sustainable resources; there are ENORMOUS stretches of pine fields (pine being so fast to grow) where the trees are grown and harvested continuously. There is never any less trees than there was.

That's why they make a thing called protective cases (: If you're a responsible enough person, though, those concerns really shouldn't be much of a problem. And if you lose/break your kindle, your ebooks will still be on your amazon account, so you won't lose them.

Hypothetically speaking here, what if there was a EMP blackout? Is very possible. There would be no saving any Kindle book or any electronic for that matter. We should always keep some things a little old school so in case of such a disaster we would have something to fall back on.

True lol I'm not too worried about that though. Nor am I suggesting that we should get rid of all of the physical books in the world. No sir! I love reading a physical book copy. Kindle's can come in handy sometimes, is all (:

I love paperbacks but I want to just to get a few things straight.
    1) The battery life of a kindle can last up to a month without charging, what's a hour of charging to a month of reading? Compared to your phone or mp3 player that's outstanding.
    2) A book that gets submerged can also "die" so to speak. Unless you submerge a kindle in water a little splash wont kill it. There are also protective cases for people who wish to read kindles underwater.
    3) Your kindle library is stored via cloud. This means you have access to your books on multiple devices (smartphone/ computer) and can backup any book, any time, and anywhere. Regardless of where your replaceable kindle is you will have your books.
    4) A malfunction? Contact Amazon customer service or better yet, google it.
    5) "Hypothetically speaking here, what if there was a EMP blackout?" You shouldn't be worrying about the ending to Moby Dick during a EMP strike.

No contest. I had boxes and boxes of paperbacks that I would take to the bookstore just to make room for more. I love all books and don't believe in destroying them but they were really becoming a nuisance. Then I got a Kindle Fire as a gift and problem solved. I can fit hundreds and hundreds of books in that device and I'm good to go. I love it.
