Lipstick, concealer, blush and … herpes?
What you’re about to read might make you reconsider wearing makeup -- ever again.
“Good Morning America” wanted to find out just how unhealthy it is to use makeup past its prime, so they collected a few samples from staffers and friends.
Of the 25 samples tested, 11 came back positive for different types of bacteria. They found staphylococcus, which can cause pink eye, skin lesions and rashes; streptococcus, which can cause strep throat; and gram negative rods, which are found in decayed food.
The bacteria can not only make you sick, it can also wreak havoc on your skin.
"When you're using contaminated makeup, you can get mild breakouts, all the way to boils and even abscesses on your face," dermatologist Jeanine Downie told “GMA.”
And you also might want to think twice before “testing” cosmetics at your local retailer. Dirty fingers dipped in makeup can spread everything from herpes to pink eye.
"You can find staphylococcus, you can find micrococcus … and if you're very unlucky … E. coli, which is obviously from fecal matter," Downie said.
Suddenly, the natural look is far more appealing.

Isn't this just for shared or old makeup, though? *scratches head* What's the problem?
Im 14 ive been wearing make up since, 6th grade and ewwww......I think i'll be making a few changes...sorry mr.Niimura..I won't be wearing my make up like yours anymore...*cringes* yuck!!!
Good thing I dont wear make-up. ^-^
I have make-up I know is over 4 years old. I wear it once a year if that, and have been doing it for 20 years. Not once have I gotten an infection, pink eye, or anything like it.
Now if I don't get the liquid stuff sealed tight it will dry out, but it hasn't even changed color or separated. I also don't keep it in the BATHROOM where germs abound, it lives in a small make-up bag in the bottom drawer of my dresser.
I'm not paying $20-$30 every time I get the urge to wear make-up....
I'm going to go against the grain on this post and say 'Hey I wear make up' as if that somehow proves something.
