Katrina was known as the Bush hurricane. What should Isaac be known as?

luigi1- in god we trust 2012/08/27 23:24:24
Isaac is the Bush hurricane.
Issac is the Romney hurricane.
Isaac is the GOP convention hurricane.
Issac is the Tea party hurricane.
Issac is the Palin hurricane.

Isaac is an act of nature, could just as easily have come next week or last week.

It's nothing more than a natural occurance, there is no one to blame least of all a human being. How ridiculous.

Bush could had done more in early preparations but most of the blame falls on Mayor Negan for doing nothing to help himself or his city.

it is likely to be linked with the convention for a while. but the people it is affecting won't care about all the political posturing around it. the people in the keys already need help and those in the mid-coastal area soon will. it's up to us to step up and do what we can to help them - not play political games.

    now there's a novel idea.

I can't lay blame on something that is natural in nature. It is what we do after disaster strikes that defines us for who we are. Pick up the pieces and help each other in the process. I have a couple of friends who live in Florida and hope they have all their wits together afterwards.
Good things happen to good people when they help others in need and do not ask anything in return.

Yes and we have to stop looking at reasons to blame people when something like this happens.

here's the news from Florida - just west of Tampa:
some rains - sometimes heavy. some wind. it's way too far to the west - at least so far - to affect us much at all. keeping fingers crossed that this continues.
current weather forecasts here are for thunderstorms and wind but nothing intense.
I've got my hurricane kit unpacked but haven't needed anything from it yet. probably won't.

the people I feel for are those in Haiti and New Orleans. they're still recovering from their previous disasters and now Haiti got socked all over again and N-O looks to be looking down the barrel of yet ANOTHER gun.

I hope it is not anything like Katrina. Last thing they need is another wallop to bring down what they have rebuilt.

well, predictions are that it won't get over a cat-2. but I don't know what state their levees up there are in at this point. if they're not fully rebuilt or if they were given a lick and a promise as they had been last time - - - a 2 could be just as devastating as a 5 was last time. New Orleans is sitting IN A BOWL fergoshsakes!

what needs to happen - but it will take decades, at least, to accomplish even if we're willing to spend the money - is to bring back the wetlands south of NO - - even make them stronger and denser than they were before we "improved" that land. that would be NO's only hope for survival given that the oceans are getting warmer and we can count on higher numbers of AND more ferocious storms in the future.

and that's not to mention Mississippi. Isaac is HUGE and is likely to hit those poor folks, as well. but at least they're slightly above sea level - that's some comfort.

have you seen the latest news from Louisiana? a parrish just SE of New Orleans [and surely the city, itself] are flooding worse than they did during Katrina. a lot of folks stayed home thinking, "Well, it's only a tropical storm, how bad can it be?" they're finding out. many have had to be rescued and homes that stood up to Katrina and Gustav are collapsing.

the president of Plaquemines Parrish said that they've NEVER seen anything like what is happening now - not even Katrina. the problem with Isaac is that it's moving so slowly. so it may only be a storm but the amount of rain it's dumping there is enormous.
the aftermath is almost certain to make Katrina's look tame. I just hope the officials handle it better than they did last time.

Agreed but I think this time they are. In fact I heard them possibly forcing a break in a levee to relieve the water flooding.

Isaac is a natural disaster as was Katrina the blame falls on no one man, people need to STOP making stupid political light of them.

There are millions of people that were effected by Issac including myself, as were many people by Katrina. Sorry, I find nothing funny about seeing people suffer and using it for political nonsense from either side.
