Katie Holmes Goes on a Post-Divorce Shopping Spree: Is Shopping Therapeutic?

Post-divorce Katie Holmes has moved on from Tom Cruise in every way, including her appearance. After marrying Tom, Katie's style significantly matured and while she always looked classy and put together, she definitely looked older than her age.

Embracing the "out with the old, in with the new" mentality, Holmes recently went on a shopping spree at Barney's and supposedly dropped over $14,000 on lingerie, and thousands on 15 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes. Along with this, she bought "a closet worth" of sexy cocktail dresses and suits.

It's true that looking great can help you feel great, so it makes sense that Katie would want to reinvent herself and her look now that she's single again. Most of us could never shell out $14K for sexy lingerie, but can you relate to the concept? Is shopping therapeutic?

You are probably a very good, very ethical person, but you are jumping to a lot of conclusions and you missed a couple of my points. Sometimes shopping to cheer up can be relaxing, but I never said it cures you and buying through fair trade and the like, helps people and I only buy things that make me happy.
You are talking about gluttony or something. We do need to stop all this buying from China and those kinds of places.

I mean, I'm going to say yes because it puts your mind to work so you're not constantly thinking about whatever's bothering you. However, I think it can be stressful at the same time if you can't find what you want/what fits. I've had the best of both worlds. :)

I really wish they would leave this woman alone. Does everyone have to know she spent a few thousand on underwear and shoes ? Have you ever seen the closets of Cher or Mariah Carey ? These women have beaucoup money folks.

I love to shop. However, this economy has been a drag on my pocket book. Hopefully this time next year with a new administration, I can again enjoy my pasttime of a shopping spree.

If I was her I'd throw/donate all the clothes Tom saw me in. Get a new car, house and daughter and start fresh. (Kidding about getting a new daughter :p). But yeah shopping works, she has the money so good for her. I would take a exotic trip around the world too. Just to celebrate not being glued to that leprechaun anymore.

Back when I was in college, I was contemplating buying a PlayStation 2 to play GTA3. My then-girlfriend and I broke up, I bought the thing the next day. It didn't heal the wound, but it certainly made me feel better.

The wound was healed after I bought a double-bass drum pedal. I haven't seen or heard from that girl in over 10 years but I still have both the pedal and the PS2 (even if the latter is still stashed away in my closet.)

Temporarily therapeutic, however, Katie is on a mission to re-create herself post-divorce. She is not taking anything away from Suri so whatever she did at Barney's she earned it herself. She'll eventually emerge from all the storm and be the new and improved Katie, inside and out. Let her be.

For me personally NO. I don't see any reason to go out and buy "STUFF" when or if you don't really need what it is you purchased.

She's a Hollywood Limousine Liberal so perhaps she should have REDISTRIBUTED her WEALTH to the poor.

I did the same thing post divorce, though I doubt I spent as much money as Katy! I needed some furniture and household items and of course I needed some new clothes and shoes too!
