Kate Middleton Spends $55,000 on Clothes in 6 Months! How Much Do You Spend on Clothes in a Month?

And you thought she seemed like the girl next door. Kate Middleton, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, is thought to have spent at least $54,593 on clothing since the beginning of the year, The Daily Mail reports. Wait for the :47 mark in the video below to find out who's footing the bill!

But it seems like Kate is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. Kate has been criticized for wearing lower-end lines like Zara and for repeating outfits. And when she spends a lot of money on couture, people get mad about that, too!

In fact, according to the Mail, Kate refuses to accept the hundreds of free garments designers send to her every month. Why are they doing this? When Kate wears something, it almost immediately sells out in what has been called "The Kate Effect." Clearly, Kate doesn't feel a need to offer free advertising for anyone!

In fact, when you break it down, $54,593 divided by six months equals about $9,099 a month. That's a lot for regular folks, but when you have black-tie events practically every weekend, like the Queen's Jubilee -- and you're representing the royal family -- maybe it's not so outrageous ...

Bur hey, if I was a member of the Royal Family I'd spend that much too! Everyone would! They're just jealous because she can. Thats why they bitch when she spends too little, and they bitch when she spends too much. I think she looks beautiful, and with the people she has her Sunday dinner with, I'm not surprised she spends so much :o

...is a reasonable average clothing spend!

Although I'm British I'd happily do away with the royal family or the parasites of the tax payer as they're affectionately known round here.

This is kinda of embarrassing, because my family generally spend 1000+ a month on clothes and hand bags for the wife.

$100 in a good month; mostly it's $0. I also like to haunt the thrift and resale shops. Nice to get a $150 silk shirt for $20. Oh, and thanks to Kate for pumping the economy, even though most of her income is from the Royalty Tax.

Depends on the month. Sometimes $0, sometimes $200. It depends on the kind of deals I can get and what I'm buying.

I don't have a monthly spend on clothing as I tend to just buy things as I need them but it would probably average out at around $50 a month (excluding shoes).

But did you read or listen to the whole story? The news I listened to talked about a couple of her dresses she bought off the rack in local regular stores. One of her dresses was from a second hand store, one of her dresses she borrowed from her mom. Most of the more expensive dress were for some of her royal duty apearances, State dinners, Queens Jubilee etc. Some of her clothes she wears more than once so from this perspective I think she is doing pretty good.

But I'm not the future Queen of England with a job to do. We call her "Kate," but she is officially the Duchess of Cambridge, a member of "The Firm," and she dresses for the most part as she is expected to.

I don't know what the clothing budget is for any royal anywhere in the world, so I don't know whether Kate's expenses so far this year are high or not -- do you, SH? I'll bet the Jubilee took a bit of extra. And The Daily Mail is a rag. :)

It really depends, for 55k I would have thought she could have had a better looking wardrobe.
