Kate Middleton Spends $55,000 on Clothes in 6 Months! How Much Do You Spend on Clothes in a Month?

And you thought she seemed like the girl next door. Kate Middleton, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, is thought to have spent at least $54,593 on clothing since the beginning of the year, The Daily Mail reports. Wait for the :47 mark in the video below to find out who's footing the bill!

But it seems like Kate is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. Kate has been criticized for wearing lower-end lines like Zara and for repeating outfits. And when she spends a lot of money on couture, people get mad about that, too!

In fact, according to the Mail, Kate refuses to accept the hundreds of free garments designers send to her every month. Why are they doing this? When Kate wears something, it almost immediately sells out in what has been called "The Kate Effect." Clearly, Kate doesn't feel a need to offer free advertising for anyone!

In fact, when you break it down, $54,593 divided by six months equals about $9,099 a month. That's a lot for regular folks, but when you have black-tie events practically every weekend, like the Queen's Jubilee -- and you're representing the royal family -- maybe it's not so outrageous ...

Bur hey, if I was a member of the Royal Family I'd spend that much too! Everyone would! They're just jealous because she can. Thats why they bitch when she spends too little, and they bitch when she spends too much. I think she looks beautiful, and with the people she has her Sunday dinner with, I'm not surprised she spends so much :o

I don't buy clothes on a monthly basis. I buy them as needed, which means that there is no standard price because I have no way of predicting ahead of time what clothing will wear out and need to be replaced.

But never more than $5,000 in a month...or at least, I don't think I have, although I've always been a tragic "label slut" and would have come close some months...but never $55,000 in a month...

i wear clothes again and again until i need new ones. but she does have a lot of functions to go to, so i guess it's fairly reasonable.

like £20 max. i thought kate middleton was supposed to be all for charity, can't she buy some normal priced clothes and help some dying children with the rest of the money?

That's supposed to be shocking? Diana Ross used to spend that much on clothes in one month. And these days she has been known to spend $150,000 on one gown at the House of Dior in France

Whoops! Didn't read question properly! I thought it was for a year, I'm not paying much attention. Would've 0 in any currency.
I can't afford to buy anything but necessities, otherwise it would be higher. I'm so sick of my wardrobe not reflecting my personality, kind of makes me feel like a drab.

I'm with you, and I think a lot of people would answer the same way - especially around holidays. People send me money for Christmas and I usually spend it on new clothes. If I were to average it out over a year, I'd say 50 bucks a month, but again, most of it is money I get from other people and I use it to buy new clothing.

It varies. At my age, I have so many that I really have no room for anything else. I was a clotheshorse when I was younger, having over 300 dresses, now probably over 300 tops, gluttony is not only in food, to say shamefully. I always got a pretty good deal unless I splurged for something really special. Now I have finally learned but wow, what a trip till I learned to stop! I guess when you do not spend that much you think you can justify it. It is still gluttony! What kills me is I have a lot of very dressy clothes and saris, things with bling. It seems like we have forgotten how to dress elegently. I have it, I am going to wear it! I will be the over dressed 5 year old playing dressup that does not know how to edit so I am wearing way too many shiny things. It's OK, I like it!

I'm a teen and still growing, so I go up a jean size around every 9 months. I'm very serious about fashion, so if I could I would spend way over $100. But I try to limit myself. Every 3-4 months or so I go on a shopping spree. I usually spend somewhere between $100-$200. Once my mom gave me $200 to splurge on a graduation dress, but I only spent $15 on a dress and $65 on other things I needed - like better fitting jeans, lip balm, and tank tops. Sometimes I splurge, sometimes I spend. However when I'm on my own and completely making my own money (instead of sometimes using baby-sitting money and sometimes using my parents' money), I will probably save more. Also since I will probably stay around the same size instead of growing 3 sizes every 4 years.

I love to buy clothes but I can't spend like a fool. Since I sell clothes I find some amazing deals. I may spend 100 in a month or less. Then I have had those times where everything had to go and I dropped 3000 to 5000 dollars in one shot. But not anymore. I don't have that kind of money. Kate is rich. Princesses can spend whatever they want and she spends less than most actresses.

less than 50 actually. i shop at a thrift store so i spend maybe 10 to 15 a month if that on clothes. but kate is royalty so she needs clothes. i still like her. if i was rich i would probably do the same thing. shes helping the economy over there.

less than $50, actually. Last thing I bought (other than undies a couple mo back) was fabric to make my daughter's wedding gown & my dress to go with. That's a once-in-a-lifetime-thing, though, so it doesn't really count...(And, yes it IS a once-in-a-lifetime-thing!)
