Kate Gosselin was caught spanking Leah, her daughter, off-air of the television show "Jon & Kate Plus 8." Kate hit Leah because Leah kept blowing a toy whistle after Kate had already told her to stop.

Paparazzi photos show Kate Gosselin hitting Leah on the bottom, with another showing Leah covering her rear end as Gosselin spanks her again. A final photo shows Mrs. Gosselin fiercely grabbing Leah's arm as the girl screams in tears.

Kate was later reported to have sat back down with her coffee while the other Gosselin daughters helped Leah relax.

Ridiculous. I cannot sum up words that emcompass my disdain for anyone who honestly believes this spanking was "abuse." Occasionally, children need discipline. Otherwise they all grow up to believe the world revolves around them. People who coddle their children should be the ones facing accusations of mistreatment.

Turning your child into a brat does not do them any favors. That is exactly what happens when there are no consequences for misbehavior. I don't like those types of people. Can't stand them.

Spanking is discipline not abuse. More kids need a good swat once in a while as there sure are a lot of disrespectful kids these days because their parents are afraid to discipline.

Spanking children is wrong in every way imaginable. Nobody, even as a parent, has the right to lay hands on another person, whether he or she is 5 or 50. Spanking leads to feelings of inferiority and aggression and promotes the idea that it is okay to lose one's temper. Children do need to be taught right from wrong and given consequences, yet spanking isn't the way to go about it. People should take the times to TEACH their kids respect, not demand it in an old-fashioned, ill-used, ignorant way.

You need to look around you to see what has happened to the children ofto day because they have no discipline in this country,I was spanked when I was young and it was not abuse,but it was to make me understand that I would do as I was told.

i don't honestly think this is child abuse. Leah may have been screaming, but we all know little kids over react, 'case we've all been there. Though, maybe she could have taken a different approach as it was only a whistle.

if she was BEATING the crap out of her then yes it would be child abuse. i don't go around beating my son, but like last night he threw a toy in my face, and laughed about it, yes i spanked him, and put him in time out. kids need consequences, there is nothing wrong w/ spanking. beating is wrong, but she was clearly not beating her child....difference is, she is in the spotlight.

spanking has never been child abuse....i have been spanked in my childhood and i'm better for it...although i also was caught screaming and crying....i mean it hurts and its humiliating (especially in front of others) so no Kate is ok...spanking is not child abuse. and people shouldnt make a big fuss about it.
