Karl Lagerfeld has an infamous big mouth, but he should know better than to mess with Adele's legions of loyal fans. In a recent interview, the fashion designer called the soul singer "a little too fat." Lagerfeld told New York Metro "The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice."

And while Lagerfeld prefers Adele to pop music's current punching bag, Lana del Rey, he says del Rey is "not bad at all." "She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She's not alone with implants." OK, so if Adele had implants, would he find her more attractive? Just wondering.

He also raised some eyebrows with his comments about first lady Michelle Obama's, er, posterior. "Mrs. Obama is not a fashion statement, but she has other things to do. My favorite thing about Mrs Obama was when she was asked if her skirt was not too tight and she answered "Why you don't like my big black a--?"

The first lady's director of communications Kristina Schake later released the following statement to Metro New York: "Mrs. Obama never made that statement." Yeah, we couldn't quite picture her saying that ...

i'm not a skinny girl and seeing a more curvy woman making it big is an inspiration to everyone...and she's not FAT! she's curvy...nothing wrong with a curvy woman! a lot of people prefer curvy women to skinny ones! and what has looks got to do with her truely breath taking voice anyway...she's an amazing artist who is down to earth and is one of the few celebrities where she hasn't let the fame and fortune go to her head. she's a nice and genuine woman and she is an inspiration to us all....i say good on Adele!!

Really...all you skinny little twigs need to shush. I mean seriously, nobody is PERFECT, people can be beautiful, and I think that is what adele is! Non of you people ( that disagree) have brains! Even though she is a celeb doesn't mean she is a robot and does not have feelings...what if you were Adele and you were to look online to find that 50% of the world is calling you fat...you would probably cry and never want to show your face out to the world! Adele here is to you...(if you read this) nobody knows what beauty is, to them everything MUST be skinny, perfect clear skin, and make-up... You may wear make up but you don't take advantage of your fame like half celebs do, you can be really sweet and nice~ I don't know you so I can't say you are amazingly nice~ it does not matter if you are fat or skinny pretty or ugly... I don't like the options. She is beautiful and talented, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't lose some weight and try to be healthy; I'm not saying she has to be super skinny, just healthy.

'Societal norms' change all the time. Look at some classical paintings 'Rubenesque' figures were in vogue for a long time. By that standard, Adele could be considered too skinny. That being said, her body and weight are not what I personally find attractive. Societal norms are made up of a lot of individual opinions of what is attractive.

well calling someone fat generally has a negative connotation. i mean u wouldn't call someone fat if ur being nice to them. so even if someone is perfectly fine with being fat, it still would be offensive.

just because her bones don't stick out like most celebrities these days, doesn't mean she's fat. she's GORGEOUS and yeah a little curvy, but still. she is an AMAZING singer so wtf does it matter what she looks like? besides i looked up karl whatever his name is and he's an old fart. he's probably just senile and didn't mean what he said. haha.

no one is saying that her bones should stick out. your saying shes an amzing singer so it doesnt matter? karls clothes have made alot of models very wealthy so why does it matter that they are thin. it works both ways and thats whats annoying about this arguement. people hate the word fat. shes not a little curvy she is overweight.

yeah she is an amazing singer so it shouldn't matter what she looks like. singing is about people's voices not what they look like. some ugly people have a MUCH better voice than pretty people, but they aren't as popular, just because they don't look attractive. when did our society become so shallow that appearances come before talent?

he stated the obvious and i really don't see a problem with that. People say things like that about his clothing on a daily basis-nice clothes but the models are too thin. Its the same things!!! Adele is fat but it's up to her if she doesn't want to diet but don't be offended at being called fat! Also this REAL WOMAN term infuriates me, i'm a size 8 with small boobs and not overweight at all, apparently i am not a real woman.Adele you are making healthy people look bad and people think its ok to be as fat as you...... go on a diet please.

if look at the difference between before times and now. some of the so called "healthy people" look unhealthy! So many people are too caught up on looking skinny! telling some one that they need to go on a freaking diet is just too rude!

Why do the people in the entertainment industry tell entertainers, like Adele, they are too fat. Not everyone should be a bag of bones. the entertainment industry needs to back off when it comes to expecting every entertainer to be SKINNY.

I doubt Lagerfeld is concerned about her health, but I think that for health reasons she should lose some. That doesn't mean she isn't beautiful, or that she needs to be thin to be beautiful. I'm not thin. I'm also not as big as Adele nor as beautiful and talented. I am reminded of another lovely voice belonging to an overweight lady who died young.

At the time of Mama Cass's death she weight 240 pounds and was 5' 5" ,Adele is 5' 9" and in no way weighs even close to that amount. You really need to look harder at Mama Cass's pictures.

I am quite aware of how heavy Mama Cass became. I also know that Adele is photoshopped and I have seen some pictures where she looks quite heavy herself. I'm not saying she isn't beautiful, and Lagerfeld's comment was rude. Just because the North American average has become heavier that doesn't mean it is necessarily healthier. That's between Adele and her doctor, it is just easy for more weight to creep up on you once you get to that size. Most people get heavier with age, not slimmer.

Look, I am just giving my opinion. I do think she could lose some weight. I do think she is fine just the way she is though, but it wouldn't hurt. If she is healthy though, great! If not so healthy due to weight then it would even more change my opinion :P
