I worry about the lawn because I paid for $850 worth of grass seeds, had it disked up, spread the seed myself and went to a hell of a lot of trouble wetting it down for over six weeks, but I know what you mean. Food is more important than a pretty lawn.
Did mine mostly by hand. There are areas on the property with standing grass gone to seed. Just went and harvested it, and applied it to prepped soil or bare spots. Free, but for the labor.
