I finished a master's degree recently ... something that my high-school teachers probably never would have seen coming!

I came to the Belgian Congo after earning my Bachelor's in Cultural Anthropology. Studied while in the Peace Corps and became a Doctor. Have several degrees; history, political science, and was awarded a dickfer.

the other is appropriate as I was 1 year shy of Pharmacy degree when injured, I do have associate's in math and science but had 3 more years added on to that toward degree. Oh by the way you can add High school to that also. so when you people post these questions, maybe all of the above should be appropriat after all a Doctorate would include a plethora of the choices

I never finished a full four years for what would have been a business degree. In my late 20s with credits and three classes I was able to secure an Associates Degree. Around 35 I took some technical classes based in my profession and am a CMTSE (Certified Machine Tool Sales Engineer). This did entail a Psychics, Geometry and Trigonometry class on a college level. Also some classes in procedures in Machine Tool Engineering.

Rather than comment on myself, I will mention a friend making a nice six figure income with a Fortune 500 (top 50) company that has a GED. he is currently working on a dissertation to get a doctorate. he has no bs, or ms... going from ged to PhD.

Most of them. If your peer reviewed published work (including patents) and your thesis are good enough the minor degrees and course work can be waived. A different friend, who graduated high school with a 1.7 GPA, and flunked out of Community Collage after two quarters got his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the U of Washington in Seattle.
(yes it is true, I hang out with ubergeeks)
Another guy I know real well has 32 commercially viable patents in Chemical Engineering, has been called as an expert witness, and spoken at several important symposia and has only three years of collage. his attitude on getting a degree is "why bother?"

College, more education right now is very expensive and doesn't translate into a better job nor more money, and college loans are non-defaultable.

I got a masters degree later in life than most folks, but better late than never right. I know what you mean, in high school, I told my councilor that I was thinking about going to college. She said that she never thought of me as college material, that I should think about trade school. She can kiss my ass, I graduated with honors!

Congratulations, Jen! Now you have options for your life.

    I have two Bachelor's, one Master's and a certification from IBM for a 9-month, 5-days-a-week, 8-hours-a-day course in computers.

The certification paid better but the Master's was more fun.

No contact with her in over 40 years. I checked the social security website and both my parents made it into their 80s and died in Florida. They supported me in my decision not to return to the US back in the 70s.

Wise move. You're still here, tse-tse flies notwithstanding.

I lost my fiance in 'nam and I've long thought that killing off an entire generation of young men was a helluva way to run a country.

I have no idea why anyone would want to come here. We're hidden and enjoy a great life but the rest of the country is kinda like New Jersey.
  • tredzwater Bingo's... 2012/05/15 13:17:49
    tredzwater
I'm glad you're hidden. I imagine the gang warfare in the Congo is almost as bad as in New Jersey. Even a 600 pound gorilla might not want to tackle an Uzi.

New Jersey can be very pretty. If you stay where it's green. Keep out of Paterson. It's long dead and doesn't have enough sense to roll over and stick it's feet in the air.
