This past Tuesday in Burbank, California, 79-year old Joan Rivers chained herself to a Costco shopping cart, before leaving when police arrived at the scene, according to the L.A. Times.

Rivers said that Costco refused to sell her new book, "I Hate Everyone ... Starting with Me," which has made the New York Times bestseller list. According to Burbank spokesman Drew Sugars, Joan Rivers was still talking about her book while she was chained to the shopping cart. Do you think it's a publicity stunt or has the Hollywood personality gone bonkers?

Joan Rivers has sucked for a long-time, now . . . Even when she had her own TV Show, no one watched it.

Hasn't madness played a large part in her stage performances? I know the stories she tells are so funny that I always end up with tears running down my face whenever I've seen her. Yet she is also a very clever woman so knew that she'd get publicity out of the store refusing to sell her book. Good business sense?

I think for once in my life, I have to stand up for Ms Rivers. ANYBODY who is able to admit that 100% of the human population is worthless, despicable, filthy, shape-shifting, out-to-get-you, scum who deserves to be shot in the face has some brains.

Joan Rivers is a smart woman and knew exactly what she was doing. Although I do not agree with Costco's refusal to stock her book, it is their right to do so. Now that Joan has received all this free publicity, her book may skyrocket to number one on the New York Times best seller list. Now I would call that a smart business move.

She has been mad for a few years now!

and I should have clicked Both... because it was a publicity stunt.

But - - she does everything for Money - - so Costco probably paid her so Costco could get some national TV time without having to pay Prime Time Commercial rates.

No she hasn't gone mad. What better way to bring attention to her new book and to also let the chain know that they should be selling it. Costco and Sam's sell books at a discount and often sell biographies and autobiographies. They shouldn't pick and choose which ones to sell. I have been in those stores and seen some pretty crazy books for sale so hers is no more offensive than others that they sell. Her stunt is a ploy to get the word out about her book. She is trying to earn money for her book nothing more. Plus, as a comedian she is going to go about protesting in a silly way. She achieved her goal. Most authors go to book stores....you listen to them talk about their plots etc. and they sell a couple of books and autograph a few copies. She pulls a stunt and more people buy her book. You may not like her humor, but she is a smart lady. Winner of celebrity apprentice, remember!!!? She is laughing all the way to the bank.

Your local library has been picking and chosing what to lend and what not to for decades. If I owned a store I`d put what sold best on the shelves. I wouldn`t waste space or time stocking the slow movers.

I do not understand it myself, but the book is a NY Times Best Seller, so moving it is not the problem.

Actually, Costco and Sams usually sell many of the same books that are in Barnes and Nobles. They sell best sellers at a discounted price. They always have. This is something new in selecting not to stock Joan Rivers. They have had some pretty raunchy books and many religious books. There is usually a wide variety. Stores don't often decide to ban best sellers from their store. So it has to be a corporate decision. It seems silly to me. But, quite honestly, since I bought a kindle I no longer buy my books at any of those stores. Instead I download it electronically from Amazon.

She was one of the ground breaking female comedians back in the 50's or 60's becuase she talked about gender, race, sexuality etc. She seems to have remained in the spotlight for her outrageous and outspoken cmedy shows etc.

What gives us the right to judge?
  • gunner ohsmith... 2012/08/09 14:16:07
    gunner
Not what, but whom. We are judgemental critters. Haven`t you already judged those here who gave an opinion? It`s ok, I don`t really care. But this attitude in a societal sense, is a major part of the reason our society is imploding. As in 'don`t push your values on me' , all the while pushing their values on others. Or, 'you have no right to judge me'. All the while passing judgement on others. What it demonstates to me, is that those who express such things, in reality, want to do what ever they want without moral or societal guidance. And where will this eventually lead? About where we are to-day. It`s more important to look good than be good. What was good is now scorned. What was once bad, is now good. Society thrived, now is coming apart. To those who think like that, don`t come to me when you`re hungry or cold.

NO I said WHAT... because we ca judging the person attitude. FOR whom is for everyone. But we are talking about Joan Rivers here. So what gives us the right to judge her attitude.

To those who think like that, don`t come to me when you`re hungry or cold. You have the wrong idea here. You don't know if that person can helps when helps is asked.

I stand corrected. Thank you for your patience. I agree. In reality, I have been asked for help by many strangers. I`ve never turned one down. I will not either. I got a bit emotional. Apologies are extended to you. Regardless, in Ms. Rivers efforts, she succeeded in drawing atten. to her book. I had no idea she had even written one or was even still alive.

She was quite a hit to an older generation. So, in her day, she had a following. Just like Elvis in my day. I didn`t care for her. She was on par with Barbara Walters, or Diane Sawyer. Boring at best, to me. My parents liked her. May be that her humor was over my head. So many things are.
