okay, i like some of the bible examples. But not all. I dont want any of my kids being "born in a barn/manger" or live as homeless for god-sake! I dont expect anyone in my family to disrupt someone elses churchs going-ons or "money changers", i dont expect them to "sell their cloaks and buy swords" and i really dont want anyone in my family to have to do some SILLY test, and give up all they have just to prove what exactly???? And what is it that this book is promoting anyway? does anyone have these answers????

Loving another like JESUS did is something I aspire to be like. Forgiveness , Healing , Mercy. We should all try to strive to be more like him.

For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. John.13:15

Where you're born is not a character trait to emulate. People are born where they are born. The nativity of Jesus was significant because it fulfilled many Hebrew prophecies. It would be silly for someone to try to emulate Jesus birth scenario if they were pregnant, because their child hasn't been foretold by prophets. One of a kind thing. Likewise, the cleansing of the temple was due to his divine authority as the Son of God. He wasn't interfering with anyone's religion. He was correcting some of the abuses of his OWN faith and religion. Jesus was a Jew AND the Son of the living God. It was his Father's house, and he was rightfully clearing out those who were not there for prayer, fasting, almsgiving or sacrifice, and were exploiting people. In essence the people he cleared out were the ones preventing the practice of somebody elses religion. And YES, this is a character trait that Christians DO need to emulate. People who are using our religion as a front from economic gain, or any other sort of selfish and disresepectful reason, should be sent away from the Church, if they are using the Church property. And this applies to Cathedrals, Parishes, Protestant Churches, Jewish Synagogues, Muslim Masques, etc., by anyone with such authority, who I would think would be...

And this applies to Cathedrals, Parishes, Protestant Churches, Jewish Synagogues, Muslim Masques, etc., by anyone with such authority, who I would think would be the ordinary of that diocese, parish, or group. (Bishop,Priest,Rabbi, Imam, etc.), but any deeply convicted, practicing member will do if they've gone to the proper authority, and gotten no action.

But this action of Jesus was even deeper and more important. Taking away the commercial aspects and elements, what is at the core is the character trait to fight for your faith with unbelievers regardless of the personal consequences.

In all manner of life, there is no higher calling than to follow, and do our best to imitate Christ Jesus. As God incarnate, and yet being fully human, he is the only perfect example of human endeavor to have ever lived, and the only role model worthy of imitation.

    Blessings,
    Steve

Let's start with Jesus' birth in a barn. Jesus was born to be a human sacrifice. That's why he is referred to as the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Lambs are born usually in a stable. His Birth, Life, and Death were what God intended so that mankind could find redemption. Most of what people read they try to understand with 20th and 21st century thinking. If someone (yourself or anyone) has difficulty understanding, find a teacher that can help you understand. It will be worth it all. There is no greater Friend then Jesus. As to him instructing his followers to sell their cloaks and buy a sword, to that point Jesus and his followers had always been excepted in friendship. However without Jesus they were facing a Hostile world. They still needed to protect themselves. They were their own police force. As a Christian facing a hostile world today, I can understand Christ's concern for his followers. Read the posts on this very site. Read the hostility that Christians face every day in ever increasing amounts. When you understand the history of those times and can compare it to life today it makes what's being said much easier to understand.

As a former believer, I think the main message of Jesus was to love one another as he loves us, love God with our whole mind, our whole heart and our whole soul and to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. That describes his whole mission in a nutshell. I think a lot of today's "Christians" have lost this message and are more into judging others, condemning others and punishing others. I try to live my life as I think Jesus would have wanted me to, not as any church or evangelical would have me live it.

You understand the words of Jesus well and that is what being a follower of Jesus is--not about church but about love. That sums it up.

It doesn’t matter to me, I'm not Christian and I don't think that there will be any test in 2012, I think we will just keep living the way we always have.

Im taking a right turn on this one I think of this as some symbolism. Humble roots eventually made for a well centered and grounded man that took a path. I mean being born in a barn then killed by people that didnt like how he felt about some things is really humbling for some even to the point they rethink how much they keep to themselves when they can help others ( help =a little time here and there along with a bag of groceries every so often)

I don't mean to be rude, but this is a very ignorant and biased question. You don't have to copy every detail of someone's life to follow their example. Let's say for example you really admire Martin Luther King Jr. and want to live like him. Would you have your kids in Georgia, give an "I have a dream" speech word for word, and have someone shoot you on a balcony? Of course not. You'd live your life by the PRINCIPLES of what he stood for. Same goes for following Jesus' example. "WWJD?" is meant to make us stop and think "If Jesus were in this situation, what would he do?" It's a reminder to "Do to others what you would have them do to you," because that's how Jesus lived.
