Jessica Alba's Husband Wears Pink Polish, Seal Wears Yellow: Should Guys Wear Nail Polish?

Jessica Alba got herself decked out for Fashion Week ... and so did her husband, film producer Cash Warren. The Daily Mail spotted hot pink nail polish on Mr. Jessica Alba's fingernails. Well, he was going to a fashion show ... and he had to find some way to stand out as the photogs went crazy for his stylish wife.

But Cash isn't the only dude rocking nail polish lately (and we're not talking about basic black, either). Heidi Klum's ex Seal was spotted in an airport in Australia Wednesday wearing neon yellow nail polish -- and no ring, The New York Daily News reports.

And last fall, USA Today noted the blue nail polish Johnny Depp wore to the premiere of his movie, "Rum Diary" -- which just so happened to match his shirt and handkerchief. We're not going to call this a "metrosexual" trend, because that term feels so dated.

But it does seem like fashion-forward guys are finally embracing nail polish -- and even, ironically, managing to look more manly as a result. Our only concern ... looks like there's going to be a much longer wait at the nail salon. Do you think guys should wear nail polish? Or does it look too "girlie" for your taste?

What a preson wears has nothing to do with being gay. If you know any gay men then you are aware that the vast majority of gay men don't paint their nails! The same conversation existed when men started wearing earrings. Men that have sex with other men are gay. Wearing an item of fashion does not make a person gay. If that were true, the most women would be considered gay for wearing pants, masculine shoes, men's watches, men's underwear, and this list goes on and on. Men are tired of being stuck in a fashion prison with a limited color palette. Nail polish is just color and it has noting to do with a person's sexuality.

Men wearing nail polish is very much like men wearing earrings, and tattoos, but it is much less permanent and it is fun and expressive because you can easily change it. It is important to remember that most high-fashion was invented by men and was worn by men in the days of our forefathers. This conversation about men wearing nail polish reminds me of the conversation in the 70′s regarding men wearing earrings which is now quite commonplace with even many NFL players wearing earrings. Men have very limited forms of self expression. On the other hand, women have been borrowing from men’s fashion for years. Additionally, when a man adopts an item from women’s fashion, a lot of folks immediately cry foul. Why the double standard? Fashion is fun and should be enjoyed by everyone and a person’s sexuality should not be judged because of their fashion choice as they are usually not related. Please look at men wearing nail polish with an open-mind. Women have been adopting from men’s fashion for many years and now men are beginning to reciprocate because many men are tired of the fashion prison that has been created for them. These men should be respected for being bold enough to try a fashion that was typically associated with women. I do agree with you that men’s nail polish is not...

I do agree with you that men’s nail polish is not needed and also believe that men should not be limited regarding colors. If we insist on imposing limits on men’s expression, then maybe women should also go back to the days of June Cleaver and dress very feminine at all times by wearing high-heels and frilly dresses rather than items adopted from male fashion such as men’s shirts, masculine clunky boots, pants, blue jeans, men’s underwear (they call them boy shorts), men’s watches, and the list goes on and on. It is disrespectful and absurd to impose gender limitations on self expression. Please open your minds rather than being judgmental. Respectfully, Jamie

That all good n fine, but it doesn't look good. Guys can borrow all they want from things us girls wear as long as it LOOKS GOOD. Girls wear masculines pieces but you cannot deny we've reformulated it And made it look good. If a man can make nail polish still look masculine and sexy the way a woman wears slacks or a fedora and makes it feminine then go right ahead.

I think the author of the article is gay, and pushing some kind of an agenda for saying these guys look "more manly". Come on, What manly man sits there and spends his time painting his nails? Any guy that wears nail polish has some kind of mental illness, and should seek a good doctor to look inside his head and see what's going on in there. I bet these guys are wearing panties too! I call it mental illness, and that's the cold hard truth!

If men shouldn't be socially allowed to wear nail polish, women shouldn't be able to wear pants. Seriously guys, society changes. It's a coating of color you put on your nails. Not a trigger to the end of the world. I promise.

Thank you for the very rational answer. It is unbelievable to see how much bigotry exists here and the lack of understanding that what a person wears does not define their sexuality.

It is a rational answer, but in certain parts of the world its just not exceptable right now. If i chose to put a clay plate in my bottom lip the way the women do in a tribe in Africa, i would be hounded to hell and back. Understand now? Would you put a bull ring in your nose? I have seen guys do that. Personally i would not.

For years, men have gotten manicures with a clear polish... In England, where men are far more open with less paranoia about ego and being macho, they will often "play" with lipstick, nail polish and other fun "paints". It's no big deal.

This question just shows how many close-minded, prejudicial people are here on sodahead. Clothing is just that -- cloth. It doesn't define your sexual orientation, for men or women, regardless of if your wearing pants or a skirt. What you put on your body should not define, for anyone, what your sexual preferences are. If it doesnt hurt you, isnt hurting you, and doesnt affect you, why should you care if someone else paints their fingernails or wears a dress? You dont have to do it, you dont have to agree with it, and you also dont have to judge them.

Amen and thenkyou for this well thought-out reply. Folks do not realize that we are not living in the 1950s anymore and therefore the gender stereotypes that we have carred for the past 75 years are dated and serve no purpose. Men have been relegated to being expression-less, colorless, and drab since the industrial revolution. Why does a man wearing nail polish garner more criticism then folks walking around with multiple piercings on every part of their bodies? The reason is that men wearing nail polish in the minds of a lot of folks violates an unwritten gender rule. Expression through adornment or color should be for both men and women without limitation. Women have had fashion freedom for years and have been wearing men's fasion. There are even articles in women's fashion magazines explaining how to incorportate masculine items into their overall look It is time for men to reciprocate and start including items from women's fashion. Men are tired of the fashion prison that they have been relegated to. Many of the women that respond negatively should ask themselves the questions: "would you like to be relegated to the limited fashion options and colors that are available to men?". I don't think that most women would tolerate it.

I think you should find a man that wears nail polish and marry him right away. You can play dress up together. I bet you won't be happy with him when you see that he has loose screws while he sits there painting and polishing his nails and watching Oprah. Hurry go get yourself a dress up boy. I hear they're all the rage in hollywood. Do you
think we should do our toes too?

well you have my applause....and like you i think Jamie is full of .... u know what!!! i can't understand why people don't know their history. He was talking about earrings, well pirates wore em', slaves wore em' so that goes way back. Just a small stud in a man's ear doesn't bother me to much, but all the rest of that junk, or 2 does. As a female that has always been & still is very much a "lady" & loves being "feminine" I don't want a man that can't be separated from a falala..panty wearing CONFUSED male.....NOT to mention...I am tired of confused folks..slapping God's FACE..IF you have a "penis" U R a MAN...if U have a "vagina" U R a female...God is NOT on HIS throne going "ooops" but if by weird reason you are born with both...then we can think maybe........there was a mistake of gender.............otherwise.... a LIE...

Your an idiot. Yes we are all aware of men and womens anatomy and clothing and nail polish or make up do not define us. Since I have been a paramedic i have stopped being afraid of being myself and enjoy painting my nails and wearing make up and clothing I want, but i guess doing CPR on a 4 month old or constantly seeing death can make you realise that life is more than following stupid so called rules. I like everyone should enjoy there life and be proud of who they are even if you do where nail polish.

I am a guy and enjoy being a guy but I like wearing female stuff. If you don't like it maybe we should give you special entrances to place different to men, remove pants from your clothing choice, take you right to vote it put you back in a kitchen. But that would be wrong.

Think men should leave some things for the ladies. If you are not a cross dresser or maybe gay, and you call yourself a man let it go. I know I wouldn't date them.

They would not want to date someone with a closed-mind anyway. What a person wears has nothing to do with sexuality. The overwhelming majority of gay men don't paint their nails and don't have the desire to paint their nails. It is simply about freedom of expression and it should not be limited by outdated gender stereotypes that serve no purpose.
