Jay-Z's 'Occupy All Streets' T-Shirts: Rad or Rip-Off?

Jay-Z has gotten involved in "Occupy Wall Street" -- in all the wrong ways. The rapper's $22 "Occupy All Streets" T-shirts were suddenly removed from his Rocawear website on Saturday, E! Online reports. And it might have something to do with the "Occupy Wall Street" people getting PO'd.

So what got the real OWS people so upset? Jay-Z didn't plan to donate any money from the shirts to their movement. "To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet," an Occupy Wall Street leader who goes by the pseudonym "Grim" told TMZ.

Rocawear explained their position in a statement to Gawker. "The 'Occupy All Streets' T-shirt was created in support of the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement," a rep said. "'Occupy All Streets' is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement."

A-ha! So there's the rub. Do you think Jay-Z tried to cash in on OWS? Or was his heart in the right place?

The occupidiots hate rich people! But they dont hate rich people that give them money!? and think about it, if they did start selling merchandise would that not make them exactly what there agaisnt?

We are getting to many groups and someone trying or making money off of the intent or purpose of the group. Selling any products undermines the groups purpose. That is my opinion on this subject.

Jay-Z is happy as long as you're talking about Jay-Z.

  • Jojojet 2011/11/23 06:18:47
I think that we should be occupying all streets and yes he should have donated money but we have things we should do but don't.

I also thought that the proceeds (or at least half) were going to the cause. So, I change my vote to Rip-off, and he has the cajones to sell the T-shirts for $22! His heart is in his pocket!
    rip off

That's sick and kind of twisted... though I would have totally supported the idea if he were giving proceeds to the movement.
  • bonbonprall 2011/11/17 19:10:17

The Lazy americans as Obama call them is corect, The wall street group is lazy and dirty and nasty hippies just like the one's of the 60's Like Nancy Pelosi said I saw these same type of protest back in the 60's and they were violent. Well just look murders, rapes, trash , crap on the streets. It is a shame to let thes low lives get away with all the crap they left. If I were mickel B I would put their sorry buts to clean up the park.

Nice shirts, Nice message, Not exactly the right way to go about supporting the movement though. When Famous artists start trying to cash in it all becomes too trendy for my taste..

I would expect a businessman like Jay Z to see the opportunity here. Why did he not say that $5 of the shirt would go to charity or something then it would have been a win win.

ALL Black musicians steal or "sample" music for all of their songs.

Whey can't they be original?! Rap is crap that doesn't take a brain to listen to.

Brotha's can also "sample" your bike if you don't lock it up!!

You are being rascist. Also, have you considered that a large majority of white music stems from African roots, such as jazz and the blues.
