Memorial Day weekend is so last week -- it's National Doughnut Day today! According to Wikipedia, National Doughnut Day occurs on the first Friday of June each year, and the event was created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. Who knew?

Today, you can celebrate by getting yourself a free doughnut of any variety at Krispy Kreme (no purchase necessary!), Dunkin’ Donuts (with any Dunkin' Beverage purchase) as well as at other chains and independent bakeries.

But if you have both a Krispy Kreme and a Dunkin' near you, like we do, which one to choose? Those traditional Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts really are addictive, but we've always loved the chocolate glazed, powdered and cinnamon from Dunkin'. How about you?

Totally need "Other" here.

I picked Dunkin' because I can't stand the awfulness that is Krispy Kreme. When it first came to my area everyone was so excited. The first time I tried them I almost puked. They have terrible texture and are just sweet on sweet.

Just terrible.

Krispy Kreme by far. The closest store near us is in New Jersey, so whenever my relatives come to visit they usually bring a box. I'm a happy camper when that happens, plus I love them.

omg, i remember going to a krispy kreme donut shop once and there was a window where you could see them making the donuts and on this conveyer belt they had all the donuts and they'd pick out the ones they wanted to sell and nearly half of them just went straight into the bin; i had never wanted to eat out of trash just as much as i wanted to then.

I like another place better but I don't think they have chain stores and they are called "Bakery Corner." Their doughnuts are bigger than normal size and when you buy a dozen the workers give 2 donuts free additional.

Where's the Obligatory Other, or Neither? I mostly quit buying donuts, because they are TOO EXPENSIVE. Hey, we are in The Great Obama Depression, and a lot of us are out of work, and short on money.

Krispy kreme are much better, I like the glossy appearance, but i guess i like any donut really lol.

While Dunkin sucks, they suck far less than KK. At least Dunkin donuts have the proper texture and weight to them. A donut is supposed to taste of yeast and egg and butter, not of sugar and way too much vanilla.

They both do the same damage so really save a couple of dollars with Dunkin. I love dough nuts but try to eat them once or twice a month. chucks!

I grew up on Dunkin' Donuts. As a kid, whenever my mom and I would leave the public library, we'd walk down a block or two to and get a couple maple bars (those were my favorite).
