To begin with, happy birthday. Dr. Seuss was my favorite and preferred reading material as a child. Favorite book? No idea, as I loved them all. Those were the days when books taught kids respect, joy, understanding, companionship and acceptance. Is too bad that most things aimed towards kids today have no idea what most ( if any) of these concepts are, let alone how to teach them. Every book the Dr. wrote was an adventure, filled with lessons and treasures for the head, heart and soul. I have carried on the tradition with all of my kids. Thanks Doc..Just a thought...

Don't bash the children. Kids are taught those values today, in books and elsewhere. Remember when our parents and grandparents complained about "these kids today"? Children deserve respect and encouragement - not insults and degrading. After all, who is responsible for what they are today?

So, video games, cartoons and other media today teach any of the aforementioned concepts? Name two. I have sat and watched some of the crap they call child friendly, educational and wholesome, and I am not impressed. Now I had no intention to start a debate, but if you want one, then show me any of this crap worth its salt. The only thing left is reruns of Sesame Street. The rest of this garbage is so watered down by political correctness and the desire to teach American kids Spanish, that they don't get much more across. By the way genius. Did you actually see anywhere that I bashed kids? That is offensive, and baseless. I bashed the garbage that we try to pass off as worthy of our (my) children. Even the Mickey mouse club is nothing more than a child fashion shoot with the latest pop star as a host..... Real, wholesome, and educational, right?????...Just a thought...

PS...Where is Mr. Rogers and the Doc when we need them most.....

The Circus McGurkus! The cream of the cream!
The Circus McGurkus! The Circus Supreme!
    The Circus McGurkus! Colossal! Stupendous!
    Astounding! Fantastic! Terrific! Tremendous!
I'll bring in my acrobats, jugglers and clowns
From a thousand and thirtty-three faraway towns
To the place that you'll see 'em in, ladies and gents,
Right behind Sneelock's Store, in the Great McGurk tents!
And I don't suppose old Mr. Sneelock will mind
When he suddenly has a big circus behind...

    I might catch a fish with a pinwheel-like tail!
I might catch a fish who has fins like a snail!
I might catch some young fish some high-jumping friskers
I might catch an old one with long flowing whiskers!
I might catch a fish with a long curly nose.
I might catch a fish like a rooster that crows.
I might catch a fish with a chequerboard belly,
Or even a fish made of strawberry jelly!

Up at Lake Winna-Bango...the far northern shore...
Lives a huge herd of moose, about sixty or more,
And they all go around in a big happy bunch
Looking for nice tender moose-moss to munch.

When you think things are bad,
When you feel sour and blue,
When you start to get mad...
    You should do...
