Israel Defense Forces’ Facebook entry marks LGBT pride month

The Israeli army on Monday, making note of LGBT Pride Month around the world, posted this image to its official Facebook page depicting two soldiers holding hands while walking through a street in Tel Aviv.

The caption: “Did you know that the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) treats all of its soldiers equally?”

In 1993, Israel was one of the first countries to allow openly gay service members — nearly 20 years ahead of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the United States.

The Israeli military also recognizes same-sex couples, including widows and widowers of the same-sex, and allows soldiers to participate in gay pride events.

    May I correct you in this:
    In 1974 the Dutch defence ministry decided to lift the ban on gays in the military.
    This made the Dutch armed forces the first in the world to accept openly homosexual personnel.
