Exactly. I remember all of the kids I went to high school with who claimed to be noncomformists. If you saw their pictures, they looked exactly like the nonconformists in every other highschool in the United States during the 1980s.
It can be! i claim to be non-conformist simply because I don't go along with trends and try to be like other people. Those Emo types think they are doing that, but they all dress, look, and act the same, so they are contradicting themselves@!.
It can be, as for example, when kids rebel against pants that fit at the waistline and decide in great numbers to wear pants with the crotch at their knees (which I happen to think looks really hiliarious). In other cases being a non-conformist may mean being different or eccentric in a lot of ways that virtually no one else conforms to.
