Is what's wrong with today's generation that their parents didn't lay down a concrete foundation of answers for their children?

When you hear today's generation compare tea with meth, it's time to question what is wrong with today's mentality; I believe it's because their parents didn't discipline, didn't teach, and allowed their children self-exploration without any guidance.

What do you think? My thoughts are obvious and apparent.

Take care,

Yes, they coddled them. They have no backbone, no pride, no drive, nothing to keep this country moving forward. We need to skip this generation. 100% lost cause.

being part of that generation (but thankfully i was raised right!) i can tell you thats pretty much true. and if the parents DO set rules and guidelines, then they dont enforce them correctly.

i think a lot of it is media. hip hop culture isn't exactly good for morality. or intelligence for that matter. movies, tv and crap with have in many ways replaced baby sitters. i guess that would tie in to the post. i agree with you souls. it's self destruction by design.

You sound like a grumpy old man. Every generation has a messed up element, including yours. Everybody bitches that the next generation is ill disciplined (I walked 15 miles to school...barefoot...sound familiar?) Not all teens compare tea with meth, and I'm sure some teens in our generation said some ignorant things too.

Indeed, but today's generation is even more unrestrained by morality and ethics than ever before, and the lack of parental figures is more pronounced and absent from today's society. I don't have to be a grumpy old man to point out obvious observations which are negative points towards a generational degradation.

I will assert and argue that today's generation lacks parental role models and guidance, and prudence towards raising children, as today's generation approves of abortions and so fourth. It goes to reason that this generation is too chaotic for it's on good. It lacks responsibilities, it has more entitlements, and the lack of judgement is to apocalyptic scales.

However, you are entitled to your own views.

I would argue that the extents to which it's true is more extreme in today's society.

"These kids today, the way they wear their hair, the way they dress, the way they talk, they will be the downfall of us all." (paraphrasing) Who said it?

There's nothing wrong with kids today. They're awesome.

I would argue that generational degradation extends into the next, if not fixed, and will become more pronounced and chaotic through promotion of those freedoms which leads to these circumstances. And every civilization has generations which concludes it's own foundation; therefore, I don't think it's unfair to say that we are reaching into the generations which will bring collapse to our foundations. Hence, they are drifting away from restraint towards unrestrained methodologies.

However, you can believe what you wish. :P

Indeed, I guess people will not admit that their generation is improving on the destructive traits of the previous until theirs becomes the downfall of their civilization.

Not bragging, just demonstrating a degrading mentality because of degrading parental values and education towards their children through leniency. Today's generation is far more destructive than mine, and mine was prone to wild tendencies. Obviously, the lack of discipline, lack of guidance, and lack of providence.

In any event, those are my thoughts,

Two members of your generation tried to take everyone down at Columbine High School. Before them, there were several other shootings, all within our age group. You have a short memory.

Hardly disputing that my generation is without flaws or destruction, but it has lead to this generation's abuse of freedoms and self-entitlement which is more pronounced than itself.

How many school shootings happens now days? 5 a year or so?

No, school violence rates actually have gone down since we were in school, even though it's still a problem.

If you rather believe statistics that you find online than the reality that you observe, then so be it :P

When statistics are actually valid, I will give them weight :P

When I was in school, I never:
    1. Hated people with red head, and called them gingers, and beat them for fun.
    2. Bullying wasn't so bad that people post it on YouTube, beat people as everyone riots around them, and have it become so extreme that it needs awareness.
    3. The only time I recalled school shooting was Columbine, however, today's generations witness a Columbine every year.
    4. Far more hate crimes towards lesbians, gays, and transexuals than ever before in my generation, but that could be because of the emergence and openness of them nowadays.

In any event, I'm not going to argue, I just want to read everyone's responses and give one feedback in return.

Youtube did not exist when you were in high school. Perhaps the internet today draws so much attention to bullying, the same type of bullying that occurred when you were a teen. The internet was not quite was it is today in the late nineties/early two thousands, and perhaps some events just weren't as well publicized/viral.

There were several school shootings in the late nineties in Arkansas, Pennslyvania, Oregon, and Virginia, and probably more. There are actually less deaths from school violence today than our time in high school.

Yes, I will believe professionals who study behavior, collect data, and do their math over my observations.

I can't go outside without seeing a bad parent. :P At least when I was a teenager, I could observe children being children, adults being parental, and good choices being had in larger quantities than today's society.

I didn't hear about mothers stabbing their children numerous times within the same week. But that could be because news wasn't so prominent as it is now. However, I would still proclaim that it's more frequent in today's society.

Take care, thanks for your response.
