It is a play on words using a phrase that means one thing in one context and something else in another context. It is a bit higher level than simile and metaphor but not by much. It is funny to take a phrase associated with a relationship of dependence for financial gain and crushing it by associating it with a competitive relationship where all gain is from hard work and individual efforts in team and / or singles sports.

If some people had their way, almost anything would be sexist. To those people, I say lighten up. Life is too short to live it as a prude.

Only if you can hear Kanye West's song when she moves, as heard in the wedding scene of Maid Of Honor, "I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger, but she ain't hangin' wit no broke ....." Then yes, it would be sexist. LOL

The shirt is being made by an athletic company who is using a clever play on words to actually encourage women (especially young girls) to be fit, active, healthy, and strong. Only in America would some hateful self-loathing basement dweller turn it into a sexist thing.

But the slogan is only on women's t-shirts. Why not apply it to men's shirts as well?

Sexist only comes into it for the reason that it's only on the women's shirts, and it's always women who get lab led gold-diggers when after men and their money. But men can be gold-diggers too, and since this was supposed to be about Olympic gold, they should've had this saying on men's shirts as well.

Some jokes really aren't all that funny. Though people do go way overboard being sensitive, I still think that phrase should've been applied to both men's and women's shirts since both sexes win Olympic gold.
