More women becoming virgins again with hymen replacement operations on the NHS

Increasing numbers of women are having taxpayer-funded ‘virginity repair’ operations before marriage.
There were 116 hymen replacement operations carried out on the NHS between 2005 and 2009. The total for 2009 was 30, up 25 per cent from 24 in 2005.
The health service figures, which do not include data on the religion or marital status of the individuals, seem to echo a trend reported by private clinics, which are seeing a huge surge in demand for the procedure from Muslim women paying upto £4,000.

But a Department of Health spokesman insisted that hymen repair operations takeplace on the NHS only to ensure a patient’s physical or psychological health.

Humans are capable of the most insane religious nonsense about sex.

What the F*ck is wrong with people? Religious craziness is eating this civilization alive.
Treating women like friggin' animals. Disgusting.

Why??? Start off a marrage with a lie??? Why go through the pain again if you weren't hiding anything??? To give the guy a thrill that he really never got and probably had when he was 14 anyway on someone else now getting the operation??? Makes no sense,.

This truly makes no sense. There are any number of ways that the hymen can be broken and have never had sex before. Riding a horse is one. Why would this be important?
One more way that religion oppresses women in the worst possible way.

If women must prove their virginity then men should too. And wouldn't that be fun.

It's putting a completely undue importance on the hymen. The hymen is unnecessary to a woman's health and not even a reliable indicator of virginity. The only time I see the point is if a Muslim woman's life was in danger unless her hymen was intact, which is a tragic situation. Furthermore, virginity itself isn't nearly as important as many people make it out to be. This is a sad reflection of culture's weird obsession with female virginity.

I'm sorry but having your hymen replaced DOES NOT make you a virgin again. If I break my arm and get a cast put on it to fix it that doesn't mean I went back in time and never broke my arm!!! Once you have had sex you are not a virgin and that's that! What a waste of money.

Seems kind of.... lame... somehow. I dunno. Is there a real medical reason to need this procedure? Other than the psychological advantages for those who've been raped I suppose.

it depends. think about those that were sexually abused as a child or raped. they didnt choose to lose their virginity and if they have the chance to become a reborn virgin i think they have a right to. for those that chose to lose theirs then they should have to pay out of pocket.

This is a crock of BS. No govt program should pay for such surgery. But I'm not surprised that Muslim women are the biggest group using the service. They are well tuned into systems to get free $ from our govt paid systems of welfare and public service. If they need to be virgins again, they ought to look at converting to another religion that's more forgiving and treats them as equal to men.

Hymens aren't supposed to be completely intact. They're actually a thin membrane with holes in them. And as you get older your hymen will naturally wear down, due to sex, exercise, and other things. If it was intact, how would a virgin have her period? A hymen is not broken during sex, unless something goes wrong and you manage to tear open the pre-existing hole even wider.

Anyway, they're not "re-virginising" themselves. They're just replacing a little membrane. A virgin is someone who's never had sex. If you've had sex and then for some reason get a shiny, new hymen, you're not a virgin.

But honestly your virginity is taken when you first have sex. You could have broken your hymen with out sexual activity which means you're still a virgin. And if you've had sex even if you've had a replacement hymen you're still no longer a virgin.

Government shouldn't have to pay for you to feel like a virgin just because you couldn't keep your pants on. If you want the operation, pay for it yourself. Seems stupid to me, unless you happen to be in a country which demands women be virgins until marriage or else. Then it'd be a safety thing.

The hymen is basically a membrane that does not really serve a purpose and is not an indicator of whether someone is a virgin since some people are born without one. The importance placed on a hymen and virginity is simply silly as it should not determine someone's worth or dignity.

If a woman's bladder falls, usually after a hysterectomy, it can cause damages to the rectal and vaginal walls. If not corrected it could lead to bigger problems. I had this surgery and i can not imagine anyone doing it electively. It is very very painfull and i had 175 stitches inside the vaginal and rectal area. It took forever to heal. And to make matters worse, my body rejected the bladder sling and I had to have another put in a year later. Was I a virgin again? No, but it felt like it the first time I had intercourse. It still hurts 8 years later. Careful what you wish for ladies, you might get it. No the tax payers didn't pay for it, my insurance and my deductible did. Tax payers should not have to pay for reconstruction of a loose woman. Lol

What you're describing and what's described as a "hymen repair" are very different things. The hymen has nothing to do with the bladder, it does not really have a function and some people are born without it or need surgery to remove it or have it be opened. Hymen repairs are done likely because of cultural reasons where as a bladder prolapse is an actual medical condition that requires care.
