I was working in the E.R. one night when a family brought in a darling little 4 year old boy. He couldn't be allowed fluids as there was a possibility of surgery. He kept begging for "a dink of water", and I promised him I would get him some "later". He did go to surgery - he died on the table. I made a promise to a sweet little kid and couldn't keep that promise.
I have never made a promise since that night. The memory haunts me.
Thats so hard, you couldn't have known what was going to happen, but I understand why it haunts you. You are obviously a very caring and sensitive person and Iam sorry that happened to you. Life is so unfair. Thank you so much for taking the time to share a very painful memory.
Thanks, Missile. It grabs me every time I think about it in any depth. But I think it gave me some great insight......which I would give back in a heartbeat if that little boy could have lived!
very much so
I want to talk about it, but trying to avoid looking vulnerable.
I have never made a promise since that night. The memory haunts me.
There was this one time I saw my buddy's grandmother naked.
I'll never forget it.
Have a good one !
