Is there a double standard in the way that people in America view and treat Christians and Atheists for the same behavior and way of living ??

I always find it strange that in US, with separation of church and state, it is seemingly mandatory to be Christian to succeed in politics. But in UK, with an established Church of England led by our head of state, we have openly atheist, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist politicians.

    the funny part is

Religious Zealots who push the public prayer thing really should read thier bible where it says not to pray in public

IT actually Says DO NOT PRAY IN PUBLIC
but do they Read the Bible NO

    Matthew 6:5
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

    Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you

    Matthew 6:7
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

    Oh that one is hillarious

When it comes to religion, mankind has always been incapable of handling the subject intelligently or subjectively. No matter if your are religious or not it has always been a flash point for the most ludicrious and inane arguements ever dreamed up!

The separation of church and state is not in our consistution. It is a widley stated by it is not there. By suing a lot of groups try to enforce the mismoner. \
Here we can not be told to go to one church or the other or not to go to church and we will fight for it.

What's really disturbing here is that a person's religion is used by many as a litmus test for eligibility to be elected into public office, even though our Constitution doesn't require it at all.

You skipped the most important part, which is the part that forbids the Government from establishing a State religion. It's not as simple as saying whether people go to Church or not. The Founding Fathers did not want our Country to be dominated by any religion, or be a Theocracy, and that's why our Constitution is a secular document.

I have never Met an Militant Atheist who goes out of their way to harass me or mock me for my Religious beliefs ( Pagan ) or Stand and Protest and interrupt a Pagan Ceremony ( Wedding, Funeral or Pagan holidays )
BUT I have met many Christians who do this to Me and others who have been Threatened , Harassed , Discriminated against, Mocked , Had Violence done to them all because they choose to believe in A Different Religion

Do some Atheists Go a bit Extreme?
maybe a Few do but they are in the minority ...

But there are Hundreds of Right Wing christian Hate and Terrorist Groups
who actively use violence and Spread Hate to prove their Religion is the Religion of Peace and Love Sorry my Idea of Peace and Love is not violence and Hate

I have no Desire or wish to Force my Beliefs on anyone if someone is interested then they can ask and I will provide information and Education I will never tell anyone what God or Goddess to worship I let them Decide for themselves I just Point them in the Direction and let them Find their own Path..

Liberal atheists love to discriminate against Christians for the slightest offenses, but when islamofascists do evil in the name of their God they get a free pass.

First that doesn't answer if America as a whole treat Atheists and Christians by a different set of standards. I am looking at Atheists and Chistians from the outside in and you are talking about the view that only Atheists have. And not a view towards either group at all. Also it's not a political question.
Was the question confusing you somehow ?

I was thinking about another post on here when when putting in my first post here. And the picture next to the question implies only Christians are bigoted and atheists are tolerant, which definitey isn't true.

Most Atheists do not announce what they are in public and as such can go unnoticed. If they speak up they are discriminated against. They have been fired, not received job offers and thought of as criminals.

In this country (USA), it's actually worse to be an atheist than to be a muslim, and we know how popular they are these days.

I am sure you are right. I have seen the religious taliban in the USA for years and it scares me to death. I would never make it known to anyone while I was there and I did live in Colorado for several years. there is much about America that I find very disturbing and unsafe at a very basic level.

Canada is not as bad, but I rarely mention my lack of religious beliefs. Our politics arenot religious based like yours are either. But it can have a huge impact on jobs and relationships as well. Here on the internet anonomous comments are usually safe.

The economy in the prairies has been very active in the past 5 years and we are in a small boom at the moment. I live in Regina SK and my sister is in Edmonton. The oil industry is just starting in Saskatchewan and we are going through a time of growth here. It is an exciting time for us.

Your profile says you are in healthcare. We always need people there.

Actually, Canada doesn't want doctors. Veterinarians, yes. MDs, no. Canadian docs come to the US to work. Sad but true. If I wanted to work in Canada I'd have to get in to a Canadian med school and start over. Completely.

Sorry, but Canada has a shortage of doctors particularly in Ontario. I am pretty sure all you have to do is requalify and not start over again. We get doctors from all over the world here who do not go back to med school.

I believe all you have to do is write some exams. You need to do some research.

When I was living in Brandon MB. I waited for a doctor coming from S. Africa. When she got there her practice was full inside of two weeks and I was on the waiting list and was barely accepted.

So, I think the availability is good. I wish you well. I know that immigration here in SK has opened up and that it is easier than it used to be due to shortages of skilled workers and a boom here in the province.

I certainly sounds like this happens in America.. having never lived there I cannot comment however.

In australia, religion is very personal, we have very few evangelicals of any religious belief.

There aren't really any double standards or religious based judgements because we are all in the same boat, we are all middle class (upper middle, middle, lower middle with something like 0.5-1% on either side being the extremes), we are all happy to live in a secular country (and stick to it, generally), religion is not in the public sphere.

The only real religious judgements there could be would be coming from or going to the evangelicals who are outwardly mocked, even by those who follow the same faith as them, because no-one in Australia likes religion shoved down their throats, even their own.

If the Westboro Baptist Church existed in Australia, they would be a laughing stock and most likely run out of the country.

When I was a Christian we thought it was part of our duty to judge. Even though there was the scripture said Judge not lest ye be judged,. there was a loophole scripture which was By their fruits ye shall know them.

When I was a teenager, my uncle (through marriage) cheated on my aunt, twice, resulting in their divorce. My uncle was an atheist. My mom told me that's what happens when you're an atheist because you have no moral compass. Ten years later an aunt (through marriage) cheated on my uncle. However she was a fundamental Christian. Mom never could explain that one.

    All Catholic Priests are pedophiles.
    All Republicans are racist.
A Black on a new bike is a thief.
A Native American is an alcoholic.
    Blah blah blah....

These "prejudgements" or "stereotypes" are nothing new.
I would say that Atheists seem to think they are special and should be immune to "stereotypes," but that would be a "prejudgement" I prefer not to make.

Of course. Didn't you know that we atheists deserve all our bad luck and do not deserve anything good that happens to us?

I wouldn't ever say that this is the view of all Americans or all Christians, but I have come across this view many times.
