Is suicide always bad?

Do you think suicide is necessarily bad? Can there be an instance of suicide where it isn't a bad thing? If so, does that make suicide always bad? Give me your thoughts!

I think that it is one of the most selfish acts one can commit... Nothing is that bad that it can't be worked through ~ NOTHING!
When I was younger I made it very clear with my friends and loved ones that if they ever did this, not to expect me at their funeral. I stand by that.

If your dying of a terminal agonizing illness, then yes I believe it is warranted. But someone that just wants to kill themselves because they are depress, or someone is picking on them; no it should not be done, it should not be condoned.

While I can't say it is always bad. If you have a terminal illness that is causing you nothing but pain and there is nothing any doctor can give you/do to you... but if you are doing it just to "get away from this life" then NO... go to a psychologist... see a therapist... there IS help! Talk about your problems! I tried to kill myself once, but I've come to realize, I would have missed out on so much!

I think if a person is terminally ill and there will be great suffering involved, assisted suicide should be allowed. Dr. Kavorkian (sp?) should have never had to go to jail for helping those people.

I don't believe in suicide but there are exceptions for everything in life. The right to die when you have a terminal illness and you are in severe pain...then I think it should be your right to die. It's not the quantity of life all the time...sometimes the quality of life is more important....dying with dignity is a true lesson one can truly learn from those who are terminally ill! God bless the fact that their can be beauty and dignity even in the face of death!

Life is hard, for everyone... See a shrink, get a puppy, talk it over with a friend, take a vacation. Just because it's hard is no reason to die.

What if you were terminally ill?

What if you were a vegetable, where the only way you can live is by having a feeding tube and respirator for the rest of your existence (note I didn't say life)?

Personally I have a living will, so my family can have the plug pulled if I were ever in that situation.

There is so much good in the world. Focus on the good. Not the bad. You don't have to be rich to like the little things like bar-b- q ing, watching birds fly, smelling flowers, swimming, falling in love, getting raises, meeting new people, hearing interesting stories, going to a great movie, sister I could write a book just listing the wonders of LIFE! Have a great life!

Thats a BIG technicallity. Um lets see, should I do it legally or comit murder??? Come on sweetheart, you just have to open your mind. When you get to be older and think about dieing. You will probobly think the same. Death is no big deal and most of us would really rather die in our sleep before we end up in diapers and start loosing our memory and even minds. Most of us are pretty intellegent and would much rather die, before we have to live like a child agian. The thought of it is just to degradeing. Even when you are old, you still have your pride.

Suicide is not an option, it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem but I would never condemn someone for it because their not me and I don't know what they have been through (and vice versa) All I can say is, if your contemplating it try and talk to someone.
Great people have suffered and commited suicide, even though they have I can't look down on them.

ya know i think its kind of a lame excuse to escape from your problems,
im not talking about terminal illnesses, in their case i understand.
i used to be very suicidal, but i realize how cowardly it is now.
but ya know....if thats really what you want to do, if you really want to hurt everyone who cares about you, if you want to be remembered as the person who gave up, go for it.

Mostly, I say yes, it's always bad. At the bottom, there's only one thing to do - look up and have faith that *you* will climb out; however, I recognize the pain that could come towards the end of a terminal illness.

I use to be against suicide. I thought that you would automatically go down stairs. UNtil about 6 years ago. I heard about a boy who committed suicide. He was teased all the time by the same kids. He told his parents. They talked to the school. And everyone thought everything was find. Until the boy committed suicide. And even at the wake those same kids took toys from this child. MY point. I don't even know for sure if this story is true. But It made me think. I can not condemn someone for taking their own life.
