It's so easy to smoke outdoors, not inside the house with the children or anywhere near them. However, most parents do ( like mine ). Those parents should not scold their kids if they start smoking from an early age, because parents may be one of the reasons they started smoking.

i don't agree with smoking around kids and non-smokers,but now they're talking of THIRD hand smoke being exposed to children,so i guess some will say it's still child abuse even if u smoke outside and then come in and hold your child,so i guess CPS should go around and round up every smokers kids. i wouldn't be suprised if that started happening

Actually subjecting any non-smoker to second-hand smoke is really bad. If they do it willingly then it's their decision, but a child can't decide on its own.
It might be annoying to go outside all the time, but if you care for your children's health (and also respect your non-smoking friends) you will do it for them.

Even though my landlord technically allows me to smoke in the livingroom, I respect my flatmate's wish not to be subjected to smoke, so I don't do it.

Because second-hand smoke is actually not much less harmful than first-hand smoke.

Lower birthrate and increased chances of birth defects and lung problems from smoking.

Smoke of any kind causes disease particularly in young children. That is abuse no matter what way you look at it.

In this day and age subjecting anyone under the age of 18 should be child abuse. It is harmful. There are few things out there with more supporting evidence than that. If you love your kids you won't do it.

Is smoking cigarettes really that important that a person would endanger another's life. My Grandmother died from emphysema never smoke a cigarette her entire life but my Grandfather did.

I have 64 first cousins and my parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents all smoked. None of us have lung cancer. It certainly was not like we were all confined to a small room and smoke was pumped in on us. My parents didn't sit around and blow smoke in our face. In fact they sent us to Catholic school and paid for it, saw that we ate 3 x a day, that we had a roof over our head and took us on vacation. Didn't seem like child abuse to me.

Things have changed. They didn't know back then the effects of it. There are many other things besides lung cancer that it can cause. It is like feeding your kids twinkies everyday. Just because they don't weigh 300 lbs. doesn't mean they still aren't doing something harmful. It is impossible to always know what poor choices lead to, but it no doubt is doing more harm than good.

I lived with the smoke for the first 18 years of my life. My parents didn't know any better, but today people do.

There is a lot more to the second hand smoke issue than cancer.

Smoking causes bronchitis middle ear infection, lower lung capacity, pneumonia, sinus infections, allergies, asthma, croup, SIDS and an entire raft of other diseases as well. It is also causes low birth weight in new borns.

I didn't used to think so because my mom always smoked around us. But when I had kids I decided not to smoke around them. No smoking in my house or car. It's not like the little ones have a choice so its up to us to make the right ones for them. Anyone tries to smoke around my Grandkids now and I put them in their place quick.

Second hand smoke is very dangerous, and perhaps even more so to children. Both of my parents were chain smokers, and all of us kids had severe headaches that stopped after we moved out. secondhand smoke

I was exactly the same with chronic headaches as a child and with chronic sinus problems as well. I has now devoloped athma nowl I have naver smoked in my life, but my doctor said that because I lived in a house with 3 chain smokers for 19 years it is the same as being a heavy smoker.

My heart goes out to you. My older brother had very bad childhood ashtma (sic). We 3 kids would up-chuck on longer car rides.

Both my brother and I were plagued with chronic childhood problems. Yet at that time no one had any idea what the causes were. Today young parents have no excuse at all.

Exactly, its not like the little ones can get out or hold their breath so a smoker can feed their habbit.

It's a form of neglect! Even if You don't smoke in doors. If you don't change your shirt, and wash your hands before handling a baby. You're putting that child at risk, and whooping cough is already on the rise.
