New College Edition, The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 1975 edition, page 1280, column 1, third word from the top. See for yourself.
Palin as vice presidential candidate was stupid (actually.. Stoopid), but Palin as Presidential candidate is even Stupider (Stoopider).
Thats the proof.. if she gets elected, that would be even proofier!!
Well.. I did mean it to be on subject.. That was just the 1st thing to come to mind... I'd been over on the politics page just before reading this... didnt mean to drift.... sorry!!
There is stupid and more stupid. Not stupider. LOL Well, now that's interesting. When I typed out stupider, my red spellcheck line did not come up. Maybe there is a such word.
Guess what. I just looked it up and it is a version of the word in the dictionary online. stu·pid·er adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est 1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse. 2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes. 3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake. 4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied. 5. Pointless; worthless: a stupid jo
IDK. I guess some people decide a word is a word and others don't. Or maybe the dictionary is old and now things have changed. Online has got to be right! (sarcastic). It's up to the moment. LOL
Trust me, I'm second guessing Merriam-Webster's online dictionary too. But compound this with my phone and computer spell-checker agreeing and it becomes hard to tell. My instinct tells me it isn't a word.
I think it might possibly be a word, but due to its awkwardness has fallen very much out of favor. I'm a smart guy (so I like to think) so I feel 'stupider' even asking this question. I need to get a hold of my friend the English major.
Online. I'm surprised. I was wondering why my computer didn't mark it as misspelled when I typed it.

You would be amazed how hard it is to get a consistent answer to this question. No one can seem to prove it either. It's either not correct or sounds so incorrect that it has fallen out of favor due to its awkwardness.
No it is incorrect to say that but what I hate is when my dad and broth add a "S" to the end of each word:
Okays I'll dos its
It pisses me off they say grammatically incorrect statements like that all the time.
Thats the proof.. if she gets elected, that would be even proofier!!
Never let it rest
Until the good becomes better
And the better best

This is why I asked for evidence. This isn't as "stupid" a question as people might think, ha. I've got conflicting evidence from all the place!
Thanks Pearl.

I don't know about English, but might just be.
Apparently, people think they can just add "-er" to the end of a word and make it one..
It doesn't take an English major to understand this.
