Is Starbucks' Coffee Stain T-Shirt Worth $85?

"Fashion" has officially become completely ridiculous.

In honor of Starbucks' 40th birthday, a designer is charging $85 for T-shirts that look like you spilled coffee on them.

Yup ... you could do that for free.

40th birthday designer charging 85 t-shirts spilled coffee yup free

Designer Alexander Wang, who was asked to create a limited-edition garment for the anniversary, told InStyle magazine that his inspiration was "what everyone tries to avoid -- spilled coffee on a T-shirt."

We can't even tell you how many work days we completely ruined when we spilled coffee on ourselves by accident, then felt gross the whole day. Why would we do this on purpose, let alone spend $85 for the experience?

The concept is undeniably clever, but for $85, we kind of think the joke is on the suckers who buy the shirt.

However, the shirt is part of Starbucks' support for the CFDA/VOGUE FASHION FUND, which helps support emerging and aspiring fashion designers.

Still interested? The shirt, which also features the signature Starbucks mermaid, is available at StarbucksStore.com and at Nordstrom.

Um, didn't you hear? ALEXANDER WANG designed it! Visit one of his stores or a department store and compared to the price of his shirts, this could be a Target bargain.

If you want to donate to CFDA/VOGUE FASHION FUND, do it personally and most likely more of the money would go to the charity instead of Starbucks. Then you don't have to have a tacky t-shirt hanging in your closet that you never wear because it makes you look like a slob. And if you want to do something to celebrate Starbucks anniversary, give them a donation or just keep buying their great coffee so that they keep going strong and have a 50th anniversary in 10 years.

Commercial: Why worry about having to spill hot coffee on your clean white tee shirt. It is hot,and so uncomfortable. Not any more,,,,,,you can now look like a slob and at a bargain price as well.Be the envy of all your friends. They will be saying look at her/him they only have one tee shirt. You will be the talk of the town and other slobs will be constantly asking you where you got the shirt,if that isn't instant fame what is?

... WOW. I can do this at home (And do, most mornings) with a plain tee, some cofee, and maybe a paint brush if I want a little mermaid thing on there. And the only thing I ever spend more than 40 dollars on, clotheing-wise, are formal dresses. No tee is worth that much. specially an ill-fitting one like this.

I'm sorry but no SINGLE article of clothing is worth $85 except maybe a formal/semi formal dress. Heck my wedding dress was only $100!

A woman who only spent $100 on her wedding dress? OMG, I think I'm in love... oh, wait a minute, I guess you are already married darn it!
  • stevie.... David H... 2011/10/05 23:13:45
    stevie.luplow
Yes, I got lucky! My dress was originally $700 and I caught it on sale for $100! I also skimped and shopped sales for almost everything else in my wedding...Almost 6 years later, my friends and family STILL talk about how nice it was and how pretty everything was. And my parents paid it all off quite fast compared to many weddings I've attended and heard about (mine was only about $5,000 from what my parents told me.)

But thank you. That was a flattering comment. I'm one girl that isn't all about looks and high priced items. I know what truly matters and how to hunt those bargains! Mama didn't raise no fool! (Yes, I'm a dork and know it)

Yeah you are a 'dork', but I'll bet you are a pretty happy 'dork' aren't you? I'm truly envious of your guy and I wish you both a joyful life together
