The internet is flocking to a new Tumblr page called "Rich Kids of Instagram," which is basically a tour of the good life... in picture form. The photos, set into virtual gold frames, feature mostly teens and young adults in exotic vacation spots, surrounded by the fineries of a high-end hotel room or their own lavish homes, as well as various other snapshots of a life free of financial worry.

An Atlantic Wire reporter, Rebecca Greenfield, had this to say about the Rich Kids of Instagram page. "Teens posing with helicopters they did not earn and posting photos online for others to ogle provides an easy in for commentary on the state of the American dream. (Dead.)"

RICHKIDSOFINSTAGRAM.TUMBLR.COM reports:

Show me something good you've done with your money and I'll be impressed. Don't pose with a bottle of liquor, pose in front of the soup kitchen you opened, or with the truck load of books you donated to a kindergarten class, in front of piece of property in a ghetto that you bought to turn into a community garden. Do SOMETHING good. Who know's...tomorrow your Daddy's stock could plummet and you may just end up being the guy in line for free food.

This type of self-promotion promotes materialism and creates an unrealistic view of how the "real world" works. Kids/teens are impressionable and when they see this type of self-indulgence their goals become more in-sync with achieving $ and all the toys/good times that comes with it.

I would prefer future generations to focus on how they can help others and make the world a better place to live for everyone. Nice things are not evil, nor is wanting them or enjoying them. I just think America is behind the 8-ball when it comes to roll models.

I love rich people and parties and ostentatious displays of ANYTHING, but Instagram kind of ruins photos.

(Seriously, what do you want? Pictures of poor people wallowing, so you can comment on how meaningful their plight is, how much you want to help... oh, right after one more SH poll!)

Not particulary offended. They cannot even spell "yacht" or "receipt", not incredibly challenging opponents. If anything it is "rad" because now we have photographs of the future exiled.

Showing your money off and expensive toy flaunting, excessive parting, excessive spending money on just pleasures.
