WND.COM reports:Pumpkin lattes. Pumpkin candles. Pumpkin beer, dog food, facial masks, cologne. Move over bacon, there’s a new must-have ingredient. With fall starting this weekend, the pumpkin harvest is upon us. The crop is looking pretty good, despite the drought. In fact, the USDA says average retail prices are less than half what they were a year ago.

    I don't understand the comparison, here. Pumpkin is always the featured flavor of fall. It's not must-have - it's just in season. I love pumpkin spiced coffee and such, but I wouldn't enjoy it as often as I'd enjoy bacon.

    Okay I love bacon so . But I have always loved pumpkin pie, lattes and coffee and stuff since harry potter had pumpkin juice and it made me love the flavor of them. Fall is my favorite seasn because of it but it can't be the new bacon because bacon is bacon. however I would kill for some pumpkin doughnuts from Dunkin anyday.

    I loath pumpkin pie so much it's a joke in the family. If somebody wants to keep me away, all they need is a pumpkin pie and I'll go elsewhere.

    Well, if pumpkin prices are down this year, hooray! I love baking with it, and since I'm allergic to pork and can't eat normal bacon, it's gotta be pumpkin for me. All you people who love pork bacon, enjoy it while you can. They've been reporting coming worldwide shortages of pork about to hit markets later this year or early next year, so bacon will be costing a lot more real soon. Due to widespread drought and the rising costs of grain to feed them, pig-farmers are slaughtering their whole herds, and not keeping as many pigs for the next generation.

    Me, I love beef bacon when I can find it, but it already costs more than pork bacon, and the rising costs for beef will surely price it out of my reach before long, too.

    Pumpkin is nothing like bacon and will never take its place. But they go pretty well together. I made a stew with pumpkin, potato and bacon and it was delicious.

    Love a good pumpkin pie but I can't think of another thing with pumpkin that I do like. However, I love bacon any way you want to serve it.

    Check out pumpkin cake, pumpkin roll and pumpkin creme candy.
    The farmers here grow lots of pumpkins and they're dirt cheap.
    Being a winter squash they're not quite as fattening as potatoes
    I use cooked pumpkin cubes with cooked potato cubes to make mashed pumpkin potatoes.
